Acetamiprid is a neonicotinoid and although not reckoned to be harmful to humans it is implicated in Bee colony death. Personally I would avoid using it. Interesting owdboggy, - well, whatever the Germans/Austrians add to this stuff they say it is not harmful to bees in any way...knowing the way the Germans work I would doubt that it would ever be allowed on the market if it was indeed harmful. One thing I do know is that my toms were full of bees - however I never followed a bee home and saw it gasping it's last, if that is what it indeed did... I've had a look on Google and no-where does it say that bees have a direct problem, just implicated - it does say plants take a minimal dosage into the system effectively and thus fighting insects indirectly and also that too much makes it ineffective...wonder if the clue is there....

Very interesting Rosefriend, more investigation is needed. I use bug gun on the flowers and it normally works a treat. I never spray anything I eat but that means if I can't get rid of greenfly or whitefly I get rid of the plant. A bit drastic I know, I need to find out more about these things. I suppose a lot of these things are harmful to something - I mean why make them when it doesn't kill a few bugs, but we don't particularly want all the bee population dropping dead when we try to kill a few aphids.. I recently saw a German programme about herbicides/pesticides being used in gardens and the problem that many gardeners spray on the basis of "double amount is better" and that is the problem...I agree - my neighbour does it and probably millions of others. I think that moderation is the word, probably in most walks of life.. RF

Well I've sprayed my sprouts, pulled all the lower leaves off that had eggs on them and squashed them, and still the bggrs are flying around.
