Garden World Discussions, or GWD as we all now know it, was first launched on 14th August 2006 and so as part of our third anniversary celebrations we will be holding two quizzes to run for two weeks from 1st to 15th August 2009 to give everyone plenty of time to take part if they wish. One is a wordsearch grid whilst the other is somewhat different and perhaps even unique, but all will be explained tomorrow. For added interest, gardening-related prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each quiz. Actual prize details will be confirmed when the results are announced but they will certainly be well worth the effort. Full details of the competitions and a reprise of the rules will be posted on this thread tomorrow, Saturday 1st August 2009, so watch this space! GWD Staff

As mentioned yesterday, we are running two quizzes as part of our third anniversary celebrations. The first is in the popular Wordsearch format. The grid below contains words and phrases associated with the season between Spring and Autumn(Fall), including activities and outings. There are less than thirty words / phrases to be found and only words with four or more letters should be submitted. Members should pm their answers to Main Admin no later than midnight UK time on Saturday 15th August 2009.
For the second quiz we have added a little local flavour. Pictured below are twenty images of hands belonging to GWD staff members, Spruance, Rosefriend, Oldmoleskins, Chuckles and Tig. To create a level playing field and to avoid giving out any subtle clues, the colour of the hands has been changed to sepia and the original backgrounds have been erased and replaced with pastel colours. Apart from that the hands have not been altered. All of the hands are numbered and each of the five named staff members has 'donated' four hand images, so what you need to do is to decide who owns each hand. As with the Wordsearch, Members should pm their answers to Main Admin no later than midnight UK time on Saturday 15th August 2009.
For both quizzes we are again using the 'First Past The Post' rule, so that in the event of a tie, the prize will go to the earliest received correct answer. There will be three gardening-related prizes awarded for each quiz, and full details will be announced with the results on Sunday 16th August 2009. Entry is open to all registered members of Garden World Discussions except those individuals directly connected to the competitions. NB. As with all GWD prize quizzes, please do not post any answers on the open board whilst the competitions are running as these will be deleted. So get studying and good luck. GWD Staff.

Mud is very beneficial for the skin Chuckles, folk pay a fortune to have it slapped all over ;D Everyone should at least have a go at guessing the hands, with three prizes per quiz you could win just for submitting an entry with one correctly identified 'hand' and there is still plenty of time, closing date is not until Midnight next Saturday (15th) x Tig

We could do feet another time, or maybe not now you have given the game away about my hairy toes Chuckles ... Perhaps we could try 'mystery' body bits ;D Come on you lot, make the effort! Quite a lot of work goes into putting the quizzes on, so make it worthwhile by having a go at them x Tig

Ok, both quizzes are now closed and no further entries can be accepted. The names of the lucky winners will be posted on Sunday 16th August 2009 together with the answers, and prize details. The bar on open board posting of answers is thus lifted. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif A big thank you to everyone who has taken part and to those involved with setting up the quizzes.
