My daughter was given a Phal, but she's hopeless with plants, so I rescued it and it's done well here with mine. Then she was given another one, and had it too close to the cooker - and burnt a leaf. She wouldn't let me rescue that one, though. I'll try to smuggle it out under my coat next time we see them! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif

Take a deep handbag Geranium. Actually perhaps you could get an orchid care order and remove it forcefully! ;D

Well mine won't be flowering anymore after catching up on here I remembered where mine are. I put them in the GH at the end of the summer and it's been down to -7 in there. I could be forgiven as I've not been able to get the door open this last couple of weeks with the freeze up we've had.

They are devine RF, I'm soooooo envious. Mine have definately gone to orchid heaven I was very tempted to purchase a couple more the the other day whilst in Ikea, they have some butes and they are only £7 and a few pence. My friend bought one, she's bought one from Ikea before and they are good plants, normally see them on sale for £12-£14 around here.

12 - 14 Pounds for an Orchid......blimey......
Erm.... - well I hate to say this but from the pics above Nos 1, 2 and 3 I bought 3 weeks ago for 4.99Euro which is around 4Pounds.....
I only have Orchids as house plants and although I have at some point had most of the different orchid varieties I have had only Phalaenopsis for the last 15 years...

Ooo thanks for the noms ladies....
I have to admit that I find Phalaenopsis Orchids easy to deal with - I ignore them basically. After killing so many house plants before I found Orchids I can safely say that they are soo easy...a couple of mine are 10 years old.
Water once a week (to the count of 5), add a bit of food every two weeks (weakened strength), lower the blinds when the sun is on them (totally wrong in the south facing lounge), cut back to the first good eye after flowering..... and enjoy the blooms.

I went for a guided tour of McBeans Orchids last week where they take you around the "non public" areas. Some of the orchids are just mind blowing.
I came away with a lovely Cymbidium for just £15....i think these orchids are the way forward for me. Also bought a small moth orchid from Tescos for a fiver yesterday....with lovely unusual colours. I'll get some pics when it gets a bit lighter.

Love to see them Andy - two tips for your Cymbidium - they like being pot bound and trying to get them to flower again isn't so easy - well I didn't think so. They need cooler night temperature to encourage them to flower again. They are very sensitive to temperature changes.

I have one that Ive put in a polybag and put it in the conservatory the leaves are looking poorly Im sure they havent been overwatered as I tend to neglect them but not to the degree of these leaf !! I dont know how to describe it its not shrivelled but on the way to that!! I have revived one before. Geranium it would take something for me to bin one you must be made of sterner stuff than me Cheery yours will flower its had a good show hasnt it? they do rest a long time and the leaves are the food factory so patience my dear.
