Oh Jas that was norty, he should not have left a young boy alone like that. Ruth, you will have to have plenty of carbs this week by the sound of it, I hope your mums electricity is ok. a crew of men turned up at 7.00 this morning with a JCB and a truck and cleared the school yard, but the binmen haven't ventured around, if a truck that big starts to slip, I dont suppose a lot would stop it. and its started snowing again.

That's a useful day to clear the school yard isn't it Barbara? One of my schools has a plan for Monday. A teacher with a landrover is going to collect all the staff and get them to school - and presumeably get them home later too. The children aren't going to be allowed out if they get to school though. It's a plan I suppose

Everything our way is still alright. Post delivered on time Dustbins collected on the right day-but the shops have been cleared out of milk and bread!! Just like the 'old' days the neighbours are 'looking out' for each other and making sure every one is alright without being intrusive. There have been many more worse winters--but people managed to cope. I wish people would stop moaning and think of the Professions where they are willing to give their services to the community -for example Doctors/Nurses/ Teachers/Home-Helps/Council workers etc. and dont expect praise for doing their job..

No post...again, nor rubbish collection and we've only got 1/2inch of snow That was really bad of the bus driver Jas - as you say, mobile phones really are a blessing. Was speaking to a local plant grower/nursery owner who said that the price of plants will rise for the second successive year, as they've lost so many young plants - Cornwall really can't cope with adverse weather

There was a nurseryman on our news saying they will have to check everything very carefully once the snow has cleared as they offer a 5 year guarantee so can't be selling plants that aren't up to scratch. This is going to hit some businesses really hard. There's folk who can't buy milk and the news shows you tankers pouring 1000's of gallons away as it has been stored too long and not delivered.

Jasmine that's shocking that your Son was left in the middle of nowhere to get home by himself. Biggles, good to hear that you are getting through this cold spell. I heard on the news about the milk having to be poured away because they can't get it away, it's such a waste. The longer the cold spell lasts the more chance it has of having a knock on effect on many a small business. One lady yesterday said she 1 customer all day yesterday and closed up shop again in the afternoon. It's the last thing our stretched economy needs really.

I was beside myself when it happened LG but the one good thing that came out of it was that we had to think of a plan just in case it ever happens again and of course until something goes wrong you don't think of a solution. Now the boys know to stay on the bus til they get to the Esso garage and get off there and wait in the shop til we come for them. At least they will be warm and dry and somewhere brightly lit with a fair few people around. OH called the bus garage to complain and they said they would talk to the driver but who knows if that ever happened.

Well at least that's something Jasmine and the boys know what to do in future.

My GF had a hospital appt in Manchester last week and 'phoned to check it was still on
Yes it was they said
But when she got there she found the Dr had made a special journey in from Cumbria and the Nurse also and she was the only patient who had turned up
Her journey was over an hour in this weather
The Professionals are being just that - hats off to this Doctor and his Nurse

I take it back a bit about the bin men, they've been sent out today but there are hardly any bins out because it is not our day. I just saw them at the top of the drive and rushed out with our wheelie bin.

The school opposite us has been open all through. Not sure what they've been doing for dinners because this is the first day the lorry has been able to get up the hill. The greengrocer got his van as far as the school gates earlier in the week but couldn't manage the rather sharp turn into the yard so they off loaded from the gate. Guess everyone's been a vegetarian this week then i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif

The Headmaster of Polegate School has just been on telly. They opened all through the snow and have now sent a letter to the parents criticisng some of them for keeping their children off school and calling the school to say they were keeping their children off so they could go sledging.

Barbara was it one of those with the princess on it? Jenny bought 2, one each for her girls and had to bring both of them back as they were faulty. I'd bring it back again and ask for the manager, your rights should not be affected because you don't have a reciept if it's faulty I thought.
