I've been looking at rechargeable batteries because we seem to get through so many these days, and wonder if they really are worth the expense. Does anyone use them regularly and if so do they hold their charge well, and can you recharge them loads and loads of times?
Thanks!

We use them. They work very well but lose their charge more quickly/don't charge up very well in the first place as they get older. Certainly cheaper than ordinary batteries in the long run I would say.

depends on what you want them for P and what capacity ones you get. I've got several different sets of them.
If you want some for high drain things like digital camera's etc, it's best to get some that are 2700 mAh because they hold a charge much longer.
Some of the larger capacity ones are supposed to be good for 1000 charges but as Jas says, they don't hold their charge as well as they get older. It's still a damn sight cheaper than buying normal batteries though.

Totally agree too Plocket. The current ones I have are Energizer 2500 or 2450 and they last for quite a bit longer than ordinary ones would, especially noticeable in one of my cameras which uses batteries. They are worth the money Plocket.

I use them in the camera - much better value for money IMHO. Like FA I also have the 2700 for that. We use 2300 & 2500 in quite a few things, electronic temperature sensors, tv remotes and battery operated clock in kitchen.

Funny isn't it, how ordinary batteries don't last as long as they used to. But then, neither do low energy light bulbs. We've had to replace two recently which I swear we haven't had much more than a year.....so much for them lasting +6 years

I use rechargable ones too...I think that they are definitely good value for money.... I have to add that I do keep a pack of ordinary ones in the cupboard though.

I bought a set of four Uniross 2700mAh rechargeable AA batteries in May 2007 on Chuckles' recommendation and they are still going strong now. I can't recall off hand how much I paid but Amazon have the same thing on sale now for £7.40.... www.amazon.co.uk/Uniross-2700mAh-Rechargeable-Battery-Ni-Mh/dp/B000IZJ39QThey seem to last quite a while between recharges and have saved me an absolute fortune in standard batteries so I think it's well worth it.

Hey P, great to see ya When I bought my last camera 3 years ago I got a small quick charger unit which came with a set of 2100 NiMH batteries, I also bought some 2700 NiMH. I soon learnt the 2700 NiMH lasted sooooo much longer than the others, 600 really makes a huge difference. I use a few batteries about the house so within a couple of months I'd got 16 batteries. I've always got fully charged spare batteries and always carry spares with my camera. After 3 years mine are all still going strong. 2 sets of mine are GP brand and they have them on here www.budgetbatteries.co.uk/21458/aa-size-nimh-2700mah-1-2v-gp-rechargeable-battery/

I use them for my camera - had them for ages now and they last quite a while but I do use the ordinary batteries for other small items

Thanks for all your very helpful replies. The ones I've started off are 2000 mAh but to be quite honest I didn't realise they could have different capacities. I'll look out for higher ones in future because they are for things like the Wii remotes, LP's camera and things that are used very regularly, requiring quite a bit of energy.
Just out of interest, mine are Energizer - are they pretty good or are there other better makes?

Well it's Energizer that I use Plocket but I've used smaller capacity duracel which obviously did'nt last as long in the camera.
