A recent news story on Anglia News reported that a lady from Norfolk was stopped from placing a job advert in her local job centre asking for someone "reliable & hard-working" because it was felt that it was "discriminatory and may offend unreliable people".
I ask you. Have the lunatics really taken over the bloody asylum or what.
I absolutely hate all these PC stories. They really make me seethe. I mean, get a grip for ***** sake.
There must be millions of similar stories out there. Over to you....

Here's one for you... I've just got into work and heard this. Catering in East Sussex schools is done by an outside company who have told their staff that for health and safety reasons they are not to use fire extinguishers if there is a fire in the kitchen. So they will have to find someone who is not employed by the catering company to come and try to put the fire out i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif

It's the way of the world now, some of it is necessary and has improved things, but a lot of it is over the top.Exercising a bit of common sense would help. A lot of the H and S stuff is because of the litigatious society which we have developed - copied from the USA, people are terrified they will be sued. I can't imagine "callmedave" concerning himself with it overmuch.

If you're planning some DIY and you live in London, don't even think of walking home from the shop clutching a new plank of wood. Because thanks to another antiquated law, while it's fine to load planks straight into your waiting car, it's an offence (maximum £500 fine) to carry a plank across a pavement. It is also against the law to 'roll or carry any cask, tub, hoop or wheel, or any ladder, plank, pole, showboard, or placard, upon any footway, except for the purpose of loading or unloading any cart or carriage, or of crossing the footway'. Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1248352/Carrying-plank-public-Youre-nicked-The-little-known-laws-daft-theyre-criminal.html#ixzz0eZKkXu6fNot only recently, obviously. ;D

There was a snippet in the paper yesterday about a young woman who had got to the checkout with her piece of quiche for her lunch and the girl at the till wouldn't sell it to her 'cos the computer said she needed proof she was over 21! The poor lady had to dash to her car and get her driving licence before she could buy her lunch! The world has indeed gone bonkers, and no matter which party is in government it will be no better while we have soo many 'liberal' enthusiasts who oppose any discipline in children, a populus intent on claiming compo for every unfilled pot-hole or crack in the pavement (who do they think ultimately pays for all this compo? We all do ... ), and of course the people whose job it is to make 'rools' - they wouldn't have a job if they stopped making them up Cantankerous of Staffordshire (aka Tig)

Why is it that the vast majority think that most of the political correctness is bloody stupid and yet we're forced to adhere to it because of a ridiculous liberal minority.
When I was young, we had "bin men". Now we have "Household waste disposal sanitation operatives" or something similar. Lets stop all this bloody nonsense and get back to some common sense.

It's funny that "actresses" now almost universally insist on being called "actors" - sort of role title reversal

I'm sorry - ITV are being sued for animal cruelty because a chef in the jungle killed and ate a rat? Am I the only one who thinks this is a total waste of money? We kill millions of animals for food, so what's the problem with killing a rat?

I saw the same article Plocket, I think the problem is that death wasn't instant, it took about a minute, but it's o.k to put down wafarin based poison and give them a lingering death. the world goes mad.

The problem was that wherever it was in Australia, it is illegal to kill an animal in the name of entertainment. That's why the case was brought to court and why they were fined.

I have to say I wasnt happy with that - there was no need to hang it upside down, skinned for all to see The poor little thing should have given it some dignity - and I dont think I could eat it either I dont like to even think of the way they are killed with the poison

but in that programme did they not eat all sorts of parts of other animals for entertainment...I know that they are already dead and not killed on screen but I am sure that I have seen lobsters cooked on Aussie tv...and they are boiled alive arent they?

Yes Missy sadly lobsters are boiled alive - I cant imagine ANYONE able to do that and eat it too afterwards I seem the remeber HFW cooking some on River Cottage and that they take literally a second to die, so they don't have time to feel anything. Sounds akin to pulling a chicken's neck, quick and all but painless. Apparantly the noise people hear when they think the lobster is screaming is just the air escaping from the shell. Same with crabs I suppose.

I guess as far as the Aussie law is concerned, they felt it was entertainment. Personally I don't think the rat being killed was done for entertainment, but that's just my opinion.
