I was watching a programme about the solar system tonight in which the presenter went to the very North of Norway to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). That is one of the things that I would absolutely love to do. Probably in my top 3 of "things to do before I die".
It got me wondering, what burning desires does anyone else have to do ? And also, have you had any burning desires that you have managed to actually do, and did they live up to your expectations ?

I watched that too FA! And the same thought crossed my mind - and then I thought it is a long way to go, cold and you have no certainty of seeing the spectacle! Best to watch telly ;D And in 5 billion years it won't be worth a light anyway Apart from those thoughts ....I'll have a ponder

I watched it too - awesome - I would just love to see those lights and I think to be there when they had the eclipse was mind blowing I would love to go whale watching - saw one in Campbell River (Vancouver Island) once and never never forgotten it - nearly died well of shock really And maybe stay on the Shetland Islands watching the wildlife - anything really that is outdoorsy

Oh there are so many things I'd like to do!!! I'd like to see the northern lights; go to Venice again with OH before it sinks; go to Niagra Falls; visit Florence and see one of my favorite sculptures (Appennine Colossus by Giambologna); do a night time walk at Kew Gardens; learn to drive an HGV; visit the Grand Canyon again but in winter and go to Monument Valley. And there are loads of other places I'd like to visit but in private But the absolutely most important thing to do before I die is to see LP grow up, perhaps get married, and start a family.

They say you have to see Naples before you die - I wasn't sure why when we drove through it. Perhaps we missed the good bit ;D

Can I come? I love weddings - I love hats and it's the only chance you get to wear one these days.
I'd love to see the Northern Lights too. I also wanted to see a shooting star and I did manage that when we were in France a couple of years ago.

I've really never thought of it much but I've done things which I'm glad i got to do before I die. One of them, quite a simple thing really, was yesterday flying back from Athens to Heathrow, following the sun and flying over the Swiss Alps covered in snow with a sunset to die for in my view! That sunset lasted over 2 hours In future I will try to book flights back at the right time to experience it again.

Strange as it might seem but I'd like to visit the British Isles and the home of my ancestors. As far as the northern lights I have seen them many times from northern Ontario and they were always breathtaking, as was Niagara falls all 30 or 40 times I've seen it. Both worth seeing many times again. I have been through the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains, the latter in the autumn with the trees in full colour.
