There are certainly some interesting choices on here, and plenty I've not heard of too! ;D I'm going to have to have a good read back at some point, I've been so engrossed in trying to pick my songs that I've barely been able to read the thread. I've lost count again, but I have two I am ready to add to my selection. The first is a funky acid track, so I'm warning you first! I have been searching for this track for nearly 20 years after taping it in a mix on pirate radio. I just about managed to get the artists name, but never heard it again. The tape is well lost, but it appeared recently on youtube, and after emailing my DJ pal I found he had the blinking record and is going to get me a copy and try and get me an original or repress! If only I mentioned it to him sooner. Anyway, it's Charles B - Lack of Love My second choice is the Chili Peppers and Give it Away. Very hard to choose one from them, but this is a firm favourite. At their funky, rocking best. : Dessert - A nice cheesecake.

Almost there on my top 10 countdown. Another 80's electro synth-pop track for me at number 2. I loved the big hair, outrageous outfits, shoulder pads and make-up (and that was just the men ;D) of Visage. I thought Steve Strange was the coolest man in the world ! Check out the video link. I would so love to have had a make-up job just like him in this video, just because at the time it was definitely de rigeur for men to wear make-up and this woud have made me the coolest boy in school ;D My favourite track of theirs is an album track called "Whispers" from their 2nd album "The Anvil". It's the only instrumental in my top 10 and I just love the soaring electronic piano that's almost classical in it's style. Sadly, there's no video on YouTube because it wasn't a single so here's the video of their best known (and my 2nd favourite) track "Fade to Grey". uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cznha2YTTh0FA x

Right, here's my number 10. Ian Hunter.
Who?
OK, if I say Mott The Hoople does that mean anything to you? Well Ian was the lead singer and song writer, and continued to do both long after the demise of MTH. I do not exagerate when I say he is one of my holy trinity of song writers, Ray Davies, David Bowie and IH - yes, he really is that good. The most under-rated song writer EVER and one of our best kept secrets. His hayday could be when he was performing with Mick Ronson (RIP), but after Mick's death he still kept going. He has a new album out - Shrunken Heads - but his best was the last one - Rant. I could select as his best track "Once Bitten Twice Shy", "", "Michael Picasso" (after Mick Ronson), but am going to go for my fave track off Rant - "Dead Men Walking".
Check it out pop pickers.

OK. Here's the deal. I will keep the spreadsheet going if we can make it a top 20!
In that case the next is a Genesis track. Just listening to Trick of The Tail - post Gabriel Genesis which I regard as a different group to Genesis with Gabriel - and this is definitely the best, and the track I'm going for is Squonk. Brilliant.
And to balance it at number 12, Peter Gabriel with Solsbury Hill. Oh the memories of a weekend in Wales....
"Walking up on Solsbury Hilll, Oops forgot to take my pill"
I'll leave the rest to your imagination.......
And the best Gabriel/Genesis track? Musical Box off Nursery Chryme. Oh this Genesis trip.... Such a shame they are so crap now.

Well, as I've already scribbled down 29 songs & my list just keeps growing, I'm with you, Slugger! I'm only up to number 6 on here though, so here's my next one ... Psalm by Roxy Music - from Stranded, which is my favourite of their albums, I love Bryan Ferry's voice, and I really like the lyrics of this one, the second half of which are, like the U2, sort of based on a psalm: www.roxyrama.com/classic/lyrics/roxy_music/psalm.shtmlI think I'll have that on the Isle of Skye with some virtual Christmas pudding

I love Bryan Ferry! Does anyone remember the album cover where he's dressed in a white jacket, black pants, standing by a pool, I think? Every inch a love god. Cant remember the name of it now.
So the track from that is 'sympathy for the devil'. He had just the right ironic tone!
And from another, BF doing John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy'. So much better than JL's version IMHO. Unrequited love; oh those were the days!

Hard to choose a favourite of his, but I'd have to go for 'Let's stick together' Anyone who doesn't want to jump up and dance to that has no soul! ;D I even bought his album of Dylan songs, which is a big thing for me, being a die-hard Dylan devotee. Well you'll be well away with this Shrub, your husband better have a bucket of water at hand uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bZTsW8WKy5cAnd here is your choice, without the dodgy moustache! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Irl5Nt6ENF4Was the album 'Deadliner'?

7th choice from me ... though this would be higher up in my list if I were doing it in order of preference ... The Beautiful South. As you may have noticed I'm really into lyrics and, with the possible exceptions of Kirsty MacColl, Jarvis Cocker, and Neil Hannon, no-one writes such clever - or funny - ones. Anyway, which Beautiful South track? - that's difficult. I'm tempted to choose Don't Marry Her, F*** Me, because there aren't many lyrics which can beat
She's a PhD in "I told you so", You've a knighthood in not listening
but I think my favourite of their tracks is probably Good As Gold, so I'll go for that one. This is the chorus:
I want my love, my joy, my laugh, my smile, my needs Not in the star signs Or the palm that she reads I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss Not in the next life I want it in this I want it in this
I should probably have that with Yorkshire pudding, shouldn't I? I'm not going to, though - I'll have baked apples stuffed with brown sugar and raisins, and, oh dear, are there any islands near Hull? I think the nearest are probably the Farne islands ... move over, Fozzie!

Ok I've thunked of my island: Sark. I saw it on some weird drama where Derek Jacobi turned into an angel and was fascinated by the tiny island where there weren't any cars. That's the next island for me

I can't choose one Duran Duran, it's impossible! I've been racking my brains. Do I go for something early like Save A Prayer or Planet Earth for sentimental reasons? Do I choose Is There Something I Should Know as I was so proud when they got to number one? Do I pick their version of Perfect Day to remind me of my wedding day? But I think my most played album is The Wedding Album from about '93. I've got to choose one from that really, but I cannot decide between these two: Ordinary World [the video version on youtube was a bit ropey] Come Undone It's no good, I've got to have both. I'll smuggle one in, in my big smalls. Dessert - I'll just have a banana ;D

I think it's about time I chose a few from the laydees, they are letting the side down at the moment. The children are all out of the house for the first time in what feels like six years, so I've been having a trip down memory lane [I will hoover, honest! ] The first choice is the carpenters. A rather depressing song if you listen to the words, but as a teenager/ early 20's this one got played quite a bit. I now put it on and count my blessings I have a lovely hubby and three fantastic children. [ Is it that obvious they are out of my hair at the moment!] The Carpenters - Goodbye To Love The second is by Connie Francis. My mum played her album all the time when I was little. I sing this in the bath. ;D Connie Francis - Where the boys are. Thirdly, I have chosen Lulu. I love this song. I don't remember the film very well at the moment, as I haven't seen it for years, but this song made a real impact on me. Sidney is so cool. Lulu - To Sir With Love Pud - Syrup sponge and custard.
