I was born in Kent and now live in Staffordshire. My OH was born in Liverpool. We ended up here because when we worked in London, OH was asked to open up a new office for his company in Birmingham. He needed to be able to commute so we looked at various places and ended up in Staffordshire. He's now moved on to work with a different company in Wolverhampton. And LP was born in Staffordshire I didn't really garden much before moving here - forced labour for mum and dad when I was little and a few plants bunged in when I had a minute garden of my own in Kent. I don't think I'll get itchy feet for a while yet, although I would like a bigger garden. We have lots of friends here and we can walk to LP's school and/or the shops.

I was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and was very lucky to live in Belfast, Hong Kong and London as I was growing up (Dad was in the Army). The only downside of this was I got packed off to boarding school and I hated nearly every minute of that i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cry.gif . Mum and Dad settled in East Sussex after Dad retired but I met OH at Uni and we moved to London for 16 years (that's where he grew up). We decided to move to East Sussex 8 years ago and I feel we've come round in a big circle as my boys ended up in a tiny village school being taught by a very good friend who I trained to be a teacher with and who had never left East Sussex. I didn't settle for 2 years - I missed the hustle and bustle of London, the shops, theatres and so on but I love it now. I love our house and our garden and the space and not having to be in the right lane of 3 or 4 when I'm driving i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif I wasn't really a gardener before we settled in this house but I reckon we just swopped London clay for Weald clay!

I was born and brought up in South Wales and that's where my family still are. I met my ex at uni and he was a Londoner so we moved here after uni. I hated London from the start not being a city girl, but you make friends and get used to the place after a while. I was planning on going back to Wales when my ex and I split up, but then I met my husband - also a Londoner born and bred - doh! Now we're in Orpington which is right on the edge of London and still has a foot in Kent. It means we're still in touch with London friends, but we can be out in the Kent countryside in 5 minutes. I'm much happier. I didn't garden much before we moved so I'm learning to garden on a delightful mix of clay and flint - joy!

Auricula it was a joke 'tho. ;D I ment can I really say I'm Irish if I don't like guiness and don't wear a shamrock. Sorry for the confusion but it's a great idea for a thread. I was born and brought up in Northern Ireland and then went to live in London. I returned to NI after a divorce and have been living in Belfast for about 8 years now. My Daughters both went to uni across the water and met their hubby's there. They're in Lancashire and Carlow which is in the republic of Ireland so I live here alone. It's handy for the train to Carlow or the plane to Manchester. ;D I'm not sure if this will be my last move or not. When I was in London I did'nt have a garden but grew in pots on a balcony. I missed it and my friends terribly but am quite settled now. I'm delighted to have my small garden and now with my allotment I'm really happy.

I didn't have a lot of choice about living here - my parents moved here from Northamptonshire when I was 5 months old !
I was born in a Northamptonshire village but my mum is from the valleys of South Wales and my dad is from County Durham. They met at college in Worcester when they were training to be teachers. My dad got a job at a school in Northants, closely followed by my mum getting a job at the same school.
My dad then applied for and got a deputy head's job at a brand new primary school here in Suffolk and we moved here. I went to the school, as did both of my brothers and now my children are at the same school because I still live here.
I have never moved far from my original home. My parents have moved to a small village about 4 miles away but I still live less than ½ a mile from the house in which I grew up. The first house I owned was also within ½ a mile of the same place and apart from 10 months renting a cottage with my first wife (when I moved all of 2 miles away), I've always lived here. I guess that means I must like it, or I can't be bothered to move. You decide !!

I have always lived in Essex, born in Gosfield, went to School in Halstead,Auricula may know these places as they are in north Essex,we moved to Sth Hanningfield when i was 8,which is a village 8 miles from Chelmsford, thats how i came to support the mighty Clarets,Chelmsford City, since 1948, in 1950 we heard that they were going to flood the area where we lived, and the farm land where dad worked,to build a reservoir, so we moved to Great Wakering, near Southend, and thats where i am now,i still watch my footie team, but now i have to drive 20 miles to do so.

Contentment...or apathy.... surely the former FA When I taught in Haverhill we did some joint projects with a primary school in Sudbury - I think it was called Pot Kiln ( or something similar). That's the sum total of my knowledge of education in Suffolk We're in the catchment area for Pot Kiln but our children go to the other one, Wells Hall. It's a better school in our opinion. FA x

I was born in a little place called Middleton , it's about 8 miles from Manchester, My Hubby lived there as well, we met at the local pictures, when we got married we moved to a terraced house up the road from here just behind Bernard Mannings club, the Embassy, in 1970 the council CPO'd all the property so we moved to Crumpsall in a brand new house, after the kids all married and left home we moved again to prestwich about 4 miles away, to a smaller house, but then our daughters Husband became ill with cjd, (he sadly died 12 yrs ago.) so we moved back over here to help nurse him, and look after her.. this is the nicest house I have ever lived in , when we bought it it was a total wreck, but over time we have done it up to our liking, and although I would love a bigger back garden, I like the fact that we are set well back from the road so the front garden is a good size, if the people at the back move I might shift all the fence backwards and ''accquire'' more land. ;D and that is my story from the age of 19, .

I was born in West London. While working as a childrens nanny I moved to Wokingham in Berkshire and then to Muswell Hill in North London with the family that I worked for. After I got married we moved back to the house that I was brought up in and then after the children were born we moved to a flat in Northolt MIddlesex, although it had no garden I grew plants and tomatoes on the balcony. Four and a half years ago we moved here to Cambs due to my husbands illness but sadly after seven months he died. All the family expected me to move back but I love it here and my daughter moved up here not long afterwards so I now have two gardens to look after...mine and hers although I am trying to teach her a few things it is a bit like the blind leading the blind....thank Heavens for friends on GWD with their infinite patience when dealing with a numpty like me i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif

I know Gosfield quite well. It's not that far from Sudbury and I've played golf there several times. I've also eaten in the Green Man FB. Last time I was there was a while ago now but the food was really nice.

I still live in Cheshire but I do go back on a regular basis to my village near Northwich and drive round the lanes - remembering what I used to get up to as a young laydee and a teenager ;D it's about a 40 min drive from where I live now My GF and I are planning a trip to walk along the canal and take in the views from the hills - will be very nostalgic as we havent been there since Grammar School days and drop into the Bluebell Wood and hopefully bring back some wild flowers I used to pick them on my way into school and complement them with white stickwort that grew in the hedgerows - ah sigh bliss happy days I wouldnt like to move to any other county - have too many rels and friends in this area

I worked at John Perry Infants in Dagenham Auricula. Mums used to change their child benefit books to other family members addresses to get their children into that school.

I'm sure LG . I would love to bring the boys (big and small) for a visit one day. They would love The Giant's Causeway and Tullymore Forest and the coast and it's castles. I would also like to try and find my old school - Malone County Primary - as I can't find it on google.
