I often do the reverse JW. I buy something I like but then get it home and think well someone else would like it too and end up giving it away. I do this not just with Christmas pressies, I do it all year long.

we did a sort of secret santa thing one year at work..we all just brought a pressie and put it in a sack and at the dinner we passed the sack around the table and we all had to pull out a pressie...I pulled out my own cos it was something that I really liked... ;D

I was up in the loft looking for a wedding cake topper belonging to Jenny, she's lending it to my Brother for his cake in 2 weeks time and found 2 packs of Christmas cards and 4 rolls of paper I'd bought in M&S sale after Christmas last year. I don't usually do this as I buy charity cards but I liked the look of them and it's debateble (sp) how much actually goes to the charity What do folks here think about charity cards then I wonder?

I tend to buy them in the sales too LG but I will also go for the 3 for 2 deals. If they are charity cards then all well and good. I wonder how much gets to the listed charity especially if the cards end up being reduced

I think for the most part, charity cards are something of a rip off. Fair enough if you're buying them because you liked the design, but as a way of supporting charities, I think it is better to hand over the money directly.
That said I wouldn't go as far as not sending any Christmas cards and giving an equivalent sum to charity. I suppose from the charities' point of view the are getting something for nothing and with a bit of free publicity thrown into the bargain but it's not something that I particularly go for.

THAT'S why I buy MY charity cards from my Cats Protection Magazine (you can also shop online). ;D
Plus, in the last year or two, one of the cats on the front was one my Mum was fostering.

I bought mine last year in a charity shop,Barnados I think it was, so then, all the money then goes to them.

At work we give a donation to a charity we choose each year instead of giving each other cards - does anyone else do that?

No, but Royal Mail is proud to support Barnardos! Seriously, they're complaining that they're short of cash and that we've all got to do even more work than we're already doing, screwing everything up by cutting back too much, and then they go and put stickers on EVERY vehicle we have saying "we're proud to support Barnardos"
