For the last few days I have had a small pop-up appearing at PC start up offering me the option of downloading/installing Windows Live Essentials 2011 as if it was something that I absolutely needed. Having looked into this it seems that it is only a recommended update rather than the important one it is made out to be. Thus I have decided that I don't want it at all as my PC is working very well at the moment - touch wood - and the last thing I need is some supposedly wonderful update from Microsoft to put a spanner in the works. Anyway, it seems that it is indeed possible to at least block this update, so a big thankyou to the clever people at the Tech Herald website for coming up with the solution. Just so as I don't miss anything out, this is a direct quote from their website:- "So what can you do about this? The first step would be to deal with the Windows Live Essentials 2011 installation.
If you see it listed in Windows Update, but do not want it, then right click on the listing and hide it. Once hidden, you should never see it again. Remember, deselecting the update will not prevent it from showing up in the future.
After that, you can change your Windows Update settings by clicking Start, then in the search box type Windows Update. Once the results are presented, click on Windows Update, and in the left pane, select Change Options. The checkmark under Recommended Updates is what is causing the WLE 2011 installation to appear as an important update."The full article may be read here... www.thetechherald.com/article.php/201043/6327/Is-Windows-Live-Essentials-2011-falsely-flagged-by-Windows-UpdateThe good news is that the fix appears to be working. Blooming Microsoft!
