Thought I'd start a little thread as I'm sure we'll have plenty to say about the engagement and wedding over the next few months, especially since it's winter and things will be a bit quiet in the garden. I think they make a lovely couple and they've had plenty of time to get to know each other properly. I hope they have a long and happy life together. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif

Several of us said that on another thread Jenny, it didn't exactly bring much luck and happiness first time round. Still, let's hope everyone in royal circles have learned a few lessons from the other royal marriage debacles and that all goes well for these two. I shan't be taking much interest in it myself, but thought I'd do one post to promote the thread for those who might care about such events Just hope they remember that we are all in a time of cutbacks and don't make US pay for too lavish a "do" ;D ;D

I've just seen on Yahoo news that William and Kate are mindful of the economic climate and will take this into account when planning the wedding.

They have had plenty of practice at being married only without the piece of paper only hope he wont make the mistakes his father made, good luck to them both it cant be easy marrying into a Royal family but at least Great Grannie is not there to stick her oar in, dont get me wrong I like most of the royal family.

Thanks to all of you who've made a comment. I hope that if they go with the iceland theme they don't have Jason Donovan in suspenders doing a Can Can.

I still am not too sure about the ring...It was a nice gesture from Wills but it does have a lot of not so good history....but then again if the ring had belonged to The Queen Mum or even Queen Victoria no-one would have bat an eyelid....I suppose in time it will become 'Kates' ring and not Dianas..... I know its a bit macabre but I hope that she wasn't wearing on 'that' night

I thought the same Missy - the other half of the ring, so to speak, ie Charles is still alive
Not an antique ring yet - not a good idea of his - am sure Kate who knows her place already didnt object tho
It should be saved to give to the first girl child they have

I was thinking along the same lines Jen. The chances are Kate was asked if she would like to have it as an engagement ring as it might have needed altering and she may have wanted her own sparkler.

No doubt she understands his reasons for doing things the way he has in a way none of us could imagine. Another way of looking at it is that when someone you love gives you something which is obviously so precious to the, it must therefore make it in it's own way very special to you too. Or perhaps I'm an old romantic.

Good luck to them I say - they will need it ! I think the ring is a lovely gesture, as it was his mothers and he obviously thought the world of her (as she did both her boys) I doubt very much that she was wearing it, I dont think she wore her rings after her and Charlie parted. I do feel it may be a little awkward for Camilla, but she got her man in the end so I dont suppose she will be all that bothered. I like the Royals, I think they do a lot of good for this country - and lets face it someone has to I know people are saying that we shouldnt have to pay for a big do but I think we should have a big do - bring lots of visitors over and fetch their money with them I think its a lovely thing to have to look forward to in such depressing days so there ;D

I think I just caught on Daybreak earlier that we'll get a day off. Don't know if it's official yet. It's looking like they'll get married at Westminister Abbey. ;D
