I sowed my alpine ones indoors in modules on a window sil end of March ( I did use sowing compost ). Once they were big enough I potted on and planted outside in middle May. As they are hardy you could probably plant sooner but at the time things were a bit nippy. They did real well in half shade and I transplanted some to my new lottie.

Andy, I grew some from seed a couple of years ago. They were sown in spring in a seed tray and pricked out when they were big enough, it took till the following year till I had any fruit but the foliage was lovely

Just been looking at those seeds you bought Andy for the red and white. Strange to see I have to say ;D I like the marketing blurb "added benefit of birds not recognising the ripe white strawberries, so there's more for you"
Also noticed reading back that Jean mentioned she didn't get fruit in the first year.

I remember as a teenager when i started getting interested in gardening, there was a small nursery down the road which had these alpine strawberries (a variety called Alexander i think) and i used to buy a few plants with my paper round money for 25p. The fruits were small but as sweet as I can ever remember and loads of em too. So if i don't get any fruit this year, they'll be well worth waiting for ;D i do believe the French use these alpine strawbs to put in their champagne due to their amaizing taste. The seeds i have are all up but are fairly slow growing despite being in 60 degree + temps. Think they'll need procking out in the next week or two. I'll see if i can get a photo.

Thanks Andy, any day now then. Mine are in the prop at 20c Any news yet chuckles ? Not a oner Andy, I must be the unluckiest person on here They have the warmth but I'm wondering about the lack of sun light. The seeds are just sat on the compo waiting to spring into life.

Wow they did well indeed. It is the growing of champagne that is most likely going to be a challenge

Mine are still in the HP, just got true leaves showing on 3 but I'm worried about moving them out as they look so delicate.
