and the one with 'eyes' that Dutchy has named 'James Bond' ;D x Tig Tig, are the petals on your snowdrop slightly ridged? Google G. Three Ships and see what you think. Is that a heucheura it's growing through - is that new? Could the snowdrop have been in its pot?

beautiful blue iris LG Jas the petals are slightly ridged. I have been through every snowdrop photo I can find on t'internet, and I've not found one like it yet. Three ships has more of a X than eyes though doesn't it? I found a couple with 'eyes' but they are the other way round, ie green eyes rather than white in the green - with a hint of yellow round them. Bill Bishop and Two Eyes in particular are like the negative of this one. The heuchera was new last year, but the snowdrops were there first, and today I've found another little clump with the same markings .... I thought the leaves were like plicatus types, what do you think? (perhaps we should have had a thread for galanthus ) x Tig

Thanks very much for the nominations ladies, I'm over the moon that they came back and I love the shade they are. I heard Carol K. say that too. I've been following your trial to name the snowdrop and have been looking too but have'nt seen anything like yours Tig.

beautiful blue iris LG x Tig What a welcome sight LG. Just a few bits & bobs from me, I took these on Sunday & the weather was really grotty. Both of these must have been left in the old potting compost that I spread around the garden in the Autumn, must remember to move them to somewhere I can see them. Really pleased that these Winter Aconites my Mum gave me have come up again this year, I think there are a few more just coming through too i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif This is my original clump of Snowdrops but I've just noticed Jasmine's ones are starting to appear too. My lovely Daphne is just starting to open, I'm a bit worried though, it's got a bald patch appearing in the centre, which is how my Mums original went ,a couple of years before it died i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cry.gif Jillyx

Very spring like Jilly - love the blues and yellows in the top pics. Hope your Daphne is going to be ok. Mine was munched by deer so it is a sad and sorry specimen (Either that or 4ft high rabbits ) There's a bit on reticulata irises in Gardens Illustarted and it says if they are in too sunny and drained a position they split into tiny non-flowering bulbils 'to the extent that reticulata irises are oftern treated as annuals'. It says if they are exposed to full sun all summer they may not flower well after the first season. No chance of that happening at the moment with our summers! ;D

That's interesting about the Irises Jasmine, mine are mostly in pots in the back garden, where it's a bit shadier even in Summer & they've usually got Summer stuff planted on top of them, I was quite surprises myself that so many have flowered again this year, I wasn't expecting it.
Geranium, I don't suppose you've managed to strike any cuttings from your Daphne & if so how. Mine's a family heirloom & the sad tale of my failure to keep the family line going is on page 5 of my garden thread.

Lovely spring pics Jilly and your Daphne looks like it's full of blooms. I do hope you can hold on to it in some way especially as it came from home. Jasmine that's very interesting about the Iris Reticulata. Mine were stuck out of the way over by the wall for the summer after all the bulbs in the pot had finished flowering. Perhaps that's how they've come back again. They'd be out of the sun for most of the day. OOps ment to say thanks for the 3rd nomination Jilly. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

No, Jilly, I haven't managed any cuttings. I suspect they're not easy to take! It would be worth persevering for you, wouldn't it. My Iris reticulata are all in the garden, not in pots, and they come up reliably each year - all except 'Natascha', a white one. I planted about a dozen a few years ago, and only two reappeared last year. I hope I see her again - there are shoots where she should be. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif A new one opened today from the pack of mixed Iris ret. bulbs I planted last autumn. I haven't a clue what its name is!

My iris ret. are planted in the front garden, it's south facing so as sunny as it gets, and they have come back every year for at least 8 .

I spotted an absolutely gorgeous dwarf iris in flower in my neighbours garden this morning, a really deep rich reddish purple. She said she didn't remember planting any, I wish I'd known that first, I could have done a bit of digging while I was there Anyway, I'm not lagging far behind everyone else, mine have burst forth today x Tig

What gorgeous cheerful pics from everyone. I was hoping to have one of my new Iris histrioides George to show you (planted in memory of one of our dear old cats) but something has been nibbling on them & the flowers that haven't just dropped of completely are all ragged i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cry.gif . I suspect a rogue snail somewhere in the pot i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif . I visited my Mum yesterday though & I did get a few pics of her Spring flowers in between showers. Some of her Winter Aconites that I'm trying to get established in my garden. Snowdrops that have spread everywhere over about 40 years, from just a couple of bulbs that she was given. Jillyx
