I saw the True-May headline AL. His take on your average rural village may be right... possibly - especially round here - we have no racial diversity at any of my village schools (I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing it's just a fact) - but the way he went on to say what viewers would and wouldn't like was asking for trouble.

..and that's the seond time the show has hit the headlines recently and the new series hasn't even started yet. Last time it was possible noise pollution affecting filming.

I don't really watch the programme although until now it has been a largely uncontroversial show that you can dive into halfway through and yet still have a decent chance of picking up the plotline.
Unfortunately, there seems to be certain members of society who cannot seem to grasp that not every community contains a representative member of every race, religion or sexual persuasion. This is after all a work of fiction, and set in a particularly distinct setting, one where the portrayed demographics do indeed reflect the mix in certain real life communities.
Why cannot people just think of themselves as members of the human race without always running to the 'ethnic' banner every time?

Good points Spru. Let's face it, on a lighter note - who'd want to live in Midsomer anyway - or even holiday there

Nor me, quite a deadly place to live! Who'd want to be 'rural' with all them 'evil do-ers' about To be honest I don't watch any programmes monitoring their 'diversity' in any aspect of life, I just like a good plot, decent actors, or a lot of laughs depending on the type of show. And I think the writer is wrong if he thinks people watch it because it represents 'Englishness', it isn't the reason I watch it at all. x Tig

Good grief can folk not leave a simple, enjoyable easy to watch programme alone. I would never dream of trying to monitor how diverse any programme is.I agree with your coments Spru. On a lighter note, if a place had Midsommer in it's name there's no way I'd spend a night there.

I don't mean to be racialist or owt, but I've counted the black people I've seen in my area, and I've only seen 6... And when I had my old postie round, there was only 1 asian (Mr Patel who ran the corner shop oddly enough...) family out of 511 houses.

We have virtually no black or asian people round here, but I really don't notice one way of the other - either in real life or on tv. However, if, as stated, Causton is supposed to be Slough.............

On the crime front didn't they once say that it had a higher per capita murder rate than New York City? ;D

With an average of 3 murders per episode that sounds about right to me Spruance. ;D

I love the program and to tell the truth I have never noticed the lack of Asian/coloured people. We dont have any in our little village but we do get lots of them walking around here, there are a few families in the town lower down the hill. Cant wait for the new series to start.

True-May will be back at the end of the month according to the paper today. Viewers have complained in droves about his suspension.

It doesn't sound pompous - voluntary work is what makes the world go round. I forgot you worked at the hospice.
I wouldn't mind an hour with John Nettles either ;D
