It's the first time I've ever managed to get gypsophila to come up again but it does make a lovely foil for other plants That is a very pretty colour Jilly. I noted when reading up on them that s & s find them tasty x Tig

They certainly do when the new foliage is coming through Tig, they think it's an "all you can eat buffet" ;D Lovely colour Jilly

Good girl...........I left a couple in pots for about a fortnight and they began to look very sorry for themselves Can't think why, they would have been left in pots if I hadn't bought them

I suppose they are watered and tended in nice neat straight rows while they are still at their nursery rather than taking a chance on life at home - in this case - in my little corner of the drive waiting to be planted! ;D They've grown plenty while they waited for me to find them a home as 2 were very small - just shoots really.

I have placed my order with Viv All tall ones this time and a variety of colours. 2 each of....Tessa,Perfect Blue,Flaming Star,Elvira and a new one ( named for his late mother) Christine Marsh I'm hoping to get one more order in before autumn comes, can't leave it too late or they won't get established before winter

What do I do wiv. 'em in the winter please, leave 'em out or bring 'em in? cover in compost, cut right back.? whats best because mine cost me a tenner and it had better not die off.

It won't die off Barbara....if you're a good girl When it starts to die back pull ( don't cut) any old flowering stems off. When the foliage has gone yellow, cover the crown in compost and then just leave it. The biggest danger is remembering to keep watch for new foliage in the spring.....and getting there with pellets before the slugs do!! ;D

Nooo... we went up to near Wadebridge to a GC called Trelawney's. It is the only decent GC ( as opposed to nursery) in Cornwall - and OH gets the car washed and waxed for a tenner there . They just happened to have 8 alstros alongside their other late herbaceous perennials.......they didn't have much left at all....and...they were putting out unmentionable crackers I got a lot of bulbs there too

All the times we've been to Wadebridge and I've never noticed a GC. You found some good stuff though!

I've dug mne out and put it in a pot, it was being eaten alive by little black slugs, and it was covered in woodlice. It's in a pot for now until I decide where to plant it for the best.

Wait till April time ? Ta very muchly I had Indian Summer andy and what a dream it was - hopefully it will manage the winter in the GH covered with fleece. Yes it is around 2feet I would say - covered in flowers and was still flowering after months and months and continual new growth....if I do lose it I will definitely get another one... As far as planting is concerned someone else will have to help, we have different rules here!! RF

I also invested in Indian Summer this year and the dark foliage is a lovely contrast for the warm flower colours. Mine has only just got hit by frost, and I won't mind if it is a thug. If you already have them in pots Andy I'd be inclined to plant them a bit deeper so the roots don't freeze, unless you can keep them somewhere warm until spring?

You can never have enough alstroes.... some of mine are still flowering now I don't mulch mine after their first year, but I do plant them quite deeply ( and I don't get frosts )
