I bought a new laptop on Saturday for my GF's daughter going to Uni - It is a Toshiba 15.7 that they loaded with lots of apps including Office 2007 - all without extra charge. It cost me £350 including VAT with a discount cos a regular customer - we buy our office computers from them
This is a family firm based in Congleton, Cheshire - anything goes wrong with any of our computers and we take them in - much easier than buying from a mass seller then they dont want to know if you have a prob
Congleton just off M6 if anyone wants their address PM me

I bought one a few months ago, Jenny has it now. I bought it in Currys/P.C. World, they're both the same now I think. They had a good range of them and very helpful staff. The best advice I got was from the tec. guy. They also gave me some free things, microsoft office was one of them. Hope you get one that suits you. The thing I realised was how quick it seemed compared to my pc. The pc died 'tho and I've bought a new one of those too.

Minefield is the right one Chuckles. I need a new puter too but have to wait for OH to get some last remnants of one of his progs off.
Mine cannot get extra hard disk space but maybe yours can. In general it is the working memory that runs out ( mine is a mere 560 MB with extensions and can not be enlarged anymore ) These days they have 2 giga bite and internet providers seem to think every one has something like that anyhow so you get updates that slow everything to a grind. If yours can be upgraded wit an extra plug in hard disk you may not have to buy a new one yet. There is a thought.... ;D

Thanks for the input ladies. Its really painful trying to use my pc atm, slow sloow and slooow. Unfortunately there comes a time in a pc's life when it can't cope any longer so yesterday afternoon I bit the bullet and ordered a new one, all being well I should have a sparkly new fast laptop tomorrow or the next day, I'm just waiting for delivery confirmation from the couriers . No doubt it will then take me a day or so to sort out moving stuff over and setting up the new one

My last laptop was from Dell. I still have it, it still works and it's now 6.5 years old. My new monster of a laptop is also from Dell I ordered online, chose what I wanted/needed and used my NUS discount to get £50 off it.

I back up my files once a month on a ClickFree gizmo I bought from QVC - for my home laptop it takes 5 mins to back all files up and for office about 10 mins So if I buy a new laptop I can just transfer them from the ClickFree - hopefully

Well my new pc is lovely, just a pity there are such conflicts between different operating sytems. The intitial set up was a doddle but when you come to setting up a network, adding software, copying stuff over or or just simply adding a printer My multi function printer/scanner/copier was new in January and whilst the software worked fine with Windows XP operating system, Windows 7 wouldn't entertain it at all without tweaking this that and the other, I won't even try and explain it gives me a headache thinking about it
