As I've already said on ere somewhere, we're getting a new car on Wednesday. We're going from a 2009 09 plate 1.4 Punto, to a 2005 55 plate Renault Laguna Estate 1.9DCi. My husband hasn't passed his test yet, and my Dad was insured on my Punto for various reasons. To change the car on my policy (incl the admin charge) it's £116. To change the car and take my Dad off it's £122 (because he's an experienced driver and it lowers my policy to have him on... even though I'm THIRTY and have been driving for nearly 12 years and have 10 years NCD-due to vandalism of my car before any asks lol) To change the car and tell them that my husband has passed his test it's £189 (Because he's an inexperienced driver even though he's 28) To change the car and take my husband off (for now) it's £62. We went for the last option and will add him back onto the policy in a few months once he's passed his test! We'd have to notify them then that he's passed his test so there will be an admin fee there anyway. But I did find it ridiculous that it's still £6 cheaper to insure an extra person just because he's older and experienced! Doesn't mean he's a better driver than me lol

The whole insurance thing is ridiculous! When we moved from London to the back of beyond here we had to pay more because the risk increased - as far as I can see the only increased risk was how many deer you were likely to have a near miss with or sadly hit

For years I was a named driver on my OHs insurance as we only needed one car. When my job changed and I had to buy a car for work purposes I needed my own insurance. It was really frustrating because some companies wouldn't give me any no claims bonus despite neither of us having had a claim, and I had my own motorcycle insurance with a full no claims entitlement. They just want as much money off you as they can get. I did eventually manage to get a small no claims discount with the same insurer we had used previously, but these days I shop around and am currently with Sheilas Wheels (changing to them saved me £70 in the first year, and they reduced my premium last time with a 'loyalty' discount! My previous insurer (the AA) just put it up every year despite me not making a claim x Tig

I shopped around and have only just taken out the policy. We weren't ready to get another car until around now or a bit later so I couldn't really delay it.
I just think it's bad that it costs less to have my Dad on the policy too when he doesn't even drive my car lol I had to have him on the insurance because the finance and V5 were in his name. I thought that we would save money on the insurance by having fewer people on it! I'm 30 years old ffs lol I'm not some 17 year old who's only just passed their test so why should I need to have my Dad on the policy to bring the price down! If anything, I'm a better driver than him... I brake in good time and don't drive up people's arses lol

Similar story to Tig's. My husband always had a company car and our other car was in his name with me as named driver. When he left work, my no claims etc was not taken into consideration at all I'm not a great believer in insurance, it always seems a bit of a rip off. When we had private medical insurance ( through OH's job) they insured us all for everything except no 2 son - he had had whooping cough and they wouldn't cover any throat or chest complaints
