I still use a hand-held one Barbara, but with a plastic turning key thingy - like this one www.allianceonline.co.uk/chefs-utensils/can-openers/can-opener-hand-held-lcco0200.htmlI bought one which cuts the top right off the can, but it it leaves it very sharp, so I've gone back to my old one. I used to have a wall mounted one with a magnet to 'catch' the lid, but it doesn't get used anymore. No-one I know has an electric one x Tig

It wasn't me Tig it was LG.
I bought one that was battery operated from a newspaper, it cost me a bomb in batterys but it did work quite well, I have seen one on the shopping channel that wasn't too expensive, But I can't vouch for that one.

Thanks to you all for your replies. The one I have came from Lakeland is is similar to the white one in the pic only the plastic on it is black. It's good to know that the electric one works well FB. I must have a google and see where I can get one.

My Mum had an electric one, when her arthritis got bad. She loved it and never had any trouble with it

Thanks Nadia and Robbie. I've had a google and I like the look of that one you've highlighted Robbie. When you say it does'nt fit all tin sizes would it open a can of baked beans and a tin of tuna? Those are about the only tins I open really.

I have the same type as FB, mine is very old now and I'm having problems getting it to open some tins it seem to work only now and again for me anyway I really must get a new one, I bet it must be about 10yrs old now so it may just be getting to its life end but I will get the same type as I cant grip one of the ones with the butterfly handle anymore either LG. I have seen the type Missy has in poundstretcher plus and some similer in Morrisons and they are around about £10 in both stores

Yes that's what I've seen too Carol. I'm pretty sure I'll go for it as it looks handy enough and as it does'nt need plugged in.
