It is that time of year again, when the RBL poppy collectors go out rattling their tins in an attempt to persuade us to part with our loose change in return for a poppy. For the last couple of years I have retained my poppy to re-use the following year. Yes, before you all shriek with horror, I do still make a donation. Today, I noticed an RBL Poppy Appeal website address in the daily paper, and so this year for the first time, I have been able to enhance my gift by virtue of the Gift Aid scheme. I hadn't really thought about this before, and in some respects it is compensation for those regrettably many occasions during my schooldays when I 'purchased' several poppies at a time, for the princely sum of two pence. The Royal British Legion helps all members of our armed forces, not just those who served in the two World Wars, so it is a worthy cause. So for anyone who is interested, here is the link... www.poppy.org.uk/

Nice one Spruance! I do the same as you - I keep my poppy and re-use it each year: it must cost them quite a bit to make so many poppies. We've already given but I put money in every "poppy day" pot I see!
