Last autumn I bought 12 erysimum plants (4 varieties, 3 of each) from Thompson & Morgan. As they were small I potted them up and they overwintered in an unheated greenhouse. Come spring they were sturdy plants and were planted out, already flowering, in late March. They have taken everything the weather has thrown at them this "summer" and, five months on, are still flowering. Now I have four pots of cuttings, roots already showing, that I hope will go out next year. The RHS advise that slugs and snails can be a problem, though mine were largely untouched, probably because they were a good size on planting. They do flop, but that is easily solved by a light trim after flowering. An excellent plant for neutral/alkaline soils when grown in full sun.

I do most of my cuttings in water Prunella, they just seem to work better for me, probably because they're on the kitchen windowsill so I can keep a close eye on them.

I'm waiting on my collection from T&M at the moment. I grew some from seed last year and was delighted with them. I still have a couple in the garden and had'nt thought of taking cuttings from them. Would now be a good time then?
