Mum bought a small shrub today from the local GC but the label was missing and as the GC is now perhaps more accurately described as a 'plant retail centre', no-one had the slightest clue what the plant was although one person - the supposed gardening expert - ventured that it might be a member of the box family. The plant is intended to replace an ailing Skimmia in a concrete urn under the front porch. It is in full sun only in the mornings and whilst still outside is sheltered from all but horizontal rain. I am sure that someone here will know what it is though. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif Image 1 (The plant is around 12 inches/30cm tall at present)Image 2 (Macro shot showing leaf detail).

It does look like a buxus of some sort, the height would be right for a young plant. Not sure about the leaf colour though, mine are much darker x Tig

My immediate thought was a Buxus, too. I've got one that has slightly 'burnished' leaves, as well as the ordinary one.

Before looking at any of the replies, Buxus was my first thought too
