....are driving me crazy in my greenhouse. I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but I'm new here and wouldn't know where to look. One site says the gnats cause no harm to plants, another says they do. Since my seedlings seem to be struggling, I'm thinking the gnats might be bad. I've tried drenching the soil in soap water, tried sticky traps and water traps. My next move is to try drenching the soil in water mixed with hydrogen peroxide. Has anyone here been successful using this method? Thanks! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

Welcome to GWD Lonewolf
The thing that I know about these is that they love moist earth and the sticky traps are good in a Greenhouse but obviously they didn't help you a lot...
I did once read that Hematoden help and dryish soil....but I have also heard that hydrogen peroxide can work..what kind of solution (strength) were you going to use??

I do know that having moist soil encourages these little gnats, but for new seedlings, I must keep the soil moist. I'm going to go ahead and try it and will let you know how it works.

Must admit that it interests me - isn't hydrogen peroxide supposed to have antiseptic qualities??

Update: Well, I've been adding the HP to the water I use on my plants. I still see quite a few gnats crawling all over the boxes, but almost none on the soil. I don't think they like it. I'm seeing no damage to the plants. I have my fingers crossed that this will work.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a saucer of almond oil (not essence) attracts fungus gnats. Perhaps an academic paper via a search engine might help more?

I tried the apple cider vinegar in a pan and I did catch a lot of gnats that were flying, but still had a gazillion of them in the soil.
