Carol Klein has an article in this month's English Garden. These are her Top 10 Plants for 2013....
1. Astrantia Roma 2. Paris polyphylla (like the look of this!) 3. Kirengeshama palmata (like the look of this too!) 4. Eryngium bourgatii Blue Form 5. Campanula Burghalti 6. Miscanthus sinensis Flamingo 7. Aquilegia longissima 8. Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii 9. Euphorbia palustris 10. Ranunculus aconitifolius Flore Pleno
Anyone else got anything to add to the list for 2013?

I'll need to do some googling here. Things we want to get Jasmine? Top of my list is Aster Little Carlow. I want one for me and one for Jenny.

Things on our wish lists or anything you've found that has been a bit special LG.
New to me this year was Viburnum opulus - I loved its flowers which started off lime green and then turned cream and its leaves turn the most gorgeous colour in autumn.

The Viburnum is a lovely shrub if you have room for it Jasmine.

What did you think of the Paris polyphylla Auricula? I just liked the green'ness of it! Must google it and check it out.
It's a pity there's not a smaller version of the Viburnum LG as it is supposed to get big. When I planted mine OH kept telling me to dig the hole further away from the fence - I moved it about 3 times! (OH nearly got buried in one of the spare holes!)

I can recommend Kirengeshama palmata - I have two clumps and they are wonderful - take years to get going though and seeds are only for the likes of Tig.... I have failed 3 times with them!!

That's such a pretty plant, unfortunately it says it needs deep moist soil, neither of which I can provide, even after the winter we've had, I bet I need to get my soil mulched & well watered by the Spring. Aster Little Carlow is top of my list too LG, I've seen it on Crocus for £6.99 & I think I've got a code from GW too, problem is it says delivered within one week & I don't think anything wants to be delivered here that soon, the ground is like a bog i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif

That is so short sighted of them LG What a lot of custom they must miss out on. Top of my wish list for this year is a Peony Molly the Witch!

I'm still planning my new wall border - and the apple tree corner. I was thinking that Dicentra spectabilis would look great in there in the shade. Maybe white ones? Next task - something for summer in there...?? But what?

Do I understand that you buy/plant the tuber-things in the autumn? Nobody seems to have them in stock atm.

In my little book that I keep beside the computer I've written down Leycesteria Formosa and Philadelphus Belle Etoile and Maltese Cross/Lychnis Chalcedonica. Also have written Clematis Macropetala Wessleton and Alpina. They all come from friends gardens on here and I've admired them. Perhaps one day I'll get some of them.

I have that Philadelphus LG and I read somewhere to grow Clematis Madame Julia Correvon through it to pick out the colour in the centre of the Philadelphus flowers.

Sounds like it would work well Jasmine. It might have been you getting it that made me google it and write it on my wish list. I do have a Philadelphus that I bought as a stick about 6 years ago and has now grown into a sizeable shrub but it's stuck behind the oblisk. The little blue tits like to sit on it's branches. It's only flowered once for me 'tho and I'm hoping it'll flower this year. If not then it'll have to go.

I've got 1 that doesn't flower well LG - I think it's Philadelphus Virginal - it has this year to prove its worth or it's out! I noticed they had Kirengeshama seed for sale in the new Mr Fothergills catalogue. I might give them a try knowing from RF's post that patience may be needed!

I've tried to grow Kirengeshoma twice since I saw it at an Open Garden a few years back - I'm just hoping that the latest plant I bought at the Taunton Flower Show in August survives. It's in the shade, but then so was the other one! Maybe they're a bit temperamental?
