Following on from Carole Klein's top 10 all time favourite plants...list yours and why How easy can it be ? In no particular order. 1) Strongylodon macrobotrys, The jade vine. Possible the most spectacular flowers ive ever seen. 2) Spatiphyllum walisii, The peace lilly. Epitomises everything tropical to me. 3) Acer palmatum, dissectum atropurpureum. Love any Japanese maples but this particular cultivar is awesome. 4) Fatsia japonica, hardy, exotic, evergreen...what's not to like. 5) Wisteria floribunda. Just the most spectacular slight when pruned properly and looked after. 6) Trachylospermum jasminoides. Superbly scented evergreen climber that flowers all summer. 7) Rosemarinus officinalis. Lots of different cultivars from upright to trailing. Love the steely blue foliage and taste great on me roast tatties !!! 8) Datura or Brugmansias. Some wonderful cultivars which can produce spectacular scented flowers. 9) Tagetes patula, the common French marigold. Epitomy of summer, love the colours but most of all, the smell when dead heading !!! 10) Fraxinus orna, Manna ash. One of my all time favourite trees....lovely fine ornate foliage and good shape.

I'm finding this really difficult too. However, I've come up with some I really MUST have in the garden. Hardy Geraniums. Salvias (S. nem. 'Caradonna' is the best one) Nandina domestica Prunus sibhirtella autumnalis 'Rosea' Coronilla valentina glauca Solanum laxum 'Album' Solanum crispum 'Glasnevin' Hellebores bulbs (so many!) Roses - all of them! Clematis - all of them, but especially the winter flowering ones. My absolute favourite is C. cirrhosa balearica 'Lansdowne Gem'. Erigeron karvinskianus. Oh dear - that's more than 10 and there are lots more! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/embarassed.gif

Great topic- I think I'd choose:
1 Aquilegia vulgaris 2 Fatsia japonica 3 Allium globemaster 4 Sidalcea 5 Crocus tommasina 6 Echinacea purpurea 7 agapanthus 8 hydrangea petiolaris 9 stipa gigantea 10 buxus
I don't have them all and I am sure my choices will change but I reckon a garden with these plants in would suit me.

A positive thread.... 1. Ferns including, both native ones and the lovely dicksonia antarctica They are so diverse... 2. sanguisorba because it's so unusual and FLUFFY 3. epimediums tiny aquilegia-type flowers...so dainty and the foliage is gorgeous 4. Gazanias...this is 'Kiss Bronze' because they are reliable and beautiful. 5. Thymes...all of them... the bees love them, the flowers are tiny and perfect, and the foliage smells lovely 6. Bananas..sadly this one is no more...tallest plant I ever grew 7. echium pininana...only ever managed to get one plant to flower, a bee magnet. 8. French Marigolds...it wouldn't be summer without them. 9. Veronicas all of them.... 10 coronilla valentina...it flowers all year round and the smell of the flowers is heavenly all of the above are subject to change according to my mood....

I haven't grown them from seed altho I've divided the plants that I have. They seem to do well in my garden...I have planted mine out as quite big plants in spring or early summer.
