Some of my pea plants are turning yellow, and the peas are rock hard, would anyone know why please, most of them are fine, it's just a couple.

It sounds to me that they have gone over or gone to seed so to speak Barbara, could this be it? I've eaten tons of the Oregon Sugar Snap peas and some of the Hurst Greenshaft. Both delicious although some of the sugar snap were left too long and had gotten big, they still tasted good when cooked.

You can leave them be, let them go brown and then lift and store them to sow next year Barbara.

Never having been much of a veg grower, I chose to buy my peas as seedlings from Sarah Raven. Just ten plants 'Sugar Ann' which have been in the GH for a good while now, planted out yesterday along with ten runner beans 'Polestar'.

Each cane is 18" into the ground and both rows are supported by stakes with strong twine knotted around each cane for support. Should be strong enough I think. The rows run east to west as well so should get plenty of sun and the fence gives a bit of shelter from the wind.

The last set of peas I planted in pots were a no-show, so I had a furtle and they have split in half and are rotten, this has never happened to me before I'm having a bad time getting any to start.

What a shame Barbara, I wonder what's happening. Are they new seeds? farmersboy would maybe have some advice if he's lurking around. Maybe Tig @rosefiend or isabella might be able to advise. I can't think why that would happen, I've used older seeds in the past, did they have enough/too much water.

Have you put them straight in the ground or in compost Barbara? I soaked mine for a couple of hours before I sowed them straight into the veg plot, they are doing OK at the moment.

If you have four that are growing OK it sounds like some of the seeds were duff Barbara, the ones in the ground could still appear.

Barbara , have heard of a pea mosaic virus transmitted by aphids that does this. Most prevalent in America but exists worldwide, your seeds may have come from an infected source. Depends where you bought them, I suppose.

I'm not growing peas but on the subject of Wilkos seeds I'm pretty disappointed. 3 out of 60 cosmos ... 6 out of 60 catanche and 8 out of 60 agrostemma. Pretty poor success rate when others are pretty much 100 %

Barbara, maglonian, sounds like they're getting their seeds from dubious sources. You have to be careful, you could introduce something bad into your garden that's difficult to get rid of. Especially if you but live plants from them.

Good for you Barbara, you can never have enough peas, what sort did you sow? I've some Hurst Greenshaft poking through at the moment. I can't direct sow at the allotment as the S&S would eat them all overnight.
