The only veg seeds I need to buy this year are peas, what are your favourites please, which do you find crop best and taste the best too.

Hurst Greenshaft were recommended to me by FB when I started growing peas Barbara. I've tried others but none have compared to them in terms of ease of growing and production of peas in the pod and they're sweet too. Which Garden have given Geisha and Karina best buys. Hope this helps.

Try Feltham First, an early variety growing to about 3 feet. If I remember (haven`t grown peas for years) sow in early March preferably under cloches and should crop in June.

They are my favourites too, best cropper I've ever grown, and they seldom make it to the pan as OH eats them like sweeties I tried some of the sugar snaps last year and they didn't do too badly considering the weather. The other one I tried was Junos, not as good a cropper as Hurst Greenshaft and it had a few pea moths Another I've tried with some success in the past is Early Onward, in the right position, with the right soil and half-decent weather they did OK, but again, not as many peas per pod as HGS but an earlier crop x Tig

What a beautiful picture Isabella I've stopped growing peas for the kitchen now but always put one row in - usually Rondo - just to eat raw while i'm working in the veg garden.

Good for you Barbara, what did you go for in the end? I bought a large pk of HGS yesterday and gave some of them to my friend who is going to grow them in a large container this year. It felt really good to be in the garden section thinking of spring and summer. ;D

I only have a small garden, but usually get a reasonable crop. The best ones for us are a sugar snap called Jessy It has the advantage of being not only delicious as a sugar snap...but if you let it grow on a little bit it makes fine 'ordinary' peas as well.

I have some Oregon Sugarsnap Peas that according to the internet, will germinate and grow well in cooler climes. I've stuck some in a big pot outside near the house for a bit of shelter and sown 2 rows of them today at the allotment. I love Sugar Snaps and the girls do too.

Dutchy I've just gone outside and had a broggle so I can answer you. There's nothing showing above the soil but on inspection I can see one of the peas has roots and is swollen so I'm hopefull. They have'nt rotted anyhow.

Oh GOOD at least the peas are not letting you down then Ladygardener. I know they should be able to deal with this being early growing plants but still one does wonder. Splendid you will have some nice green orbs on a platter in the near futere then Or do you eat them whole as is usual over here with sugar snaps.

We'll eat those ones whole Dutchy but i have the Hurst Greenshaft to eat the peas themselves from. I've not sown them yet, I'll leave it another week or two and sow them direct with protection at the allotment.

I think I will do the same but might change to the cf after all. No peas for me but just sugar snaps as I adore those. Peas cannot go with beans so every year is a struggle to find a spot where they can go as all other small beds are planned up. Maybe I'll put them at the foot of the Asparagus this year. I can use the support for those to put canes against for training the peas up. The Asparagus does not mind shade at the start of the season.

My Oregon Sugarsnap Peas have sprouted about 2 weeks ago, growing slowly but still very cool here, with intermittant snow flurries and frost most nights. So I think they will do well for you.

Tried to find a US Supplier for Hurst Greenshaft, but no luck. I grow for fresh eating and for the freezer, Oregon Trail shell peas. They are quite sweet, fill out well and stay very sweet with blanching and freezing. I used to grow Little Marvels, they are very tasty but small pods with only 4 or 5 peas,
