As you might have read, my weeping pear tree died and I'm in the throes of dealing with the space at the moment. It's going to be a huge area to fill, and I'm going to replace the pear and a scraggy Buddleia with a Liquidamber and a Cornus (ordered). I shall still have space for additional shrubs and hope someone has grown the ones I have on my little list! Any thoughts or advice welcome. Viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii' Clerodendron trichotonum (this might be too big, but can it be pruned?) Elsholzia stauntonii

I can help you with Viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii' - slow grower - absolute dream when it flowers..needs space eventually and is a real stunner on it's own.

Clerodendrons are nice but they often send out absolutely loads of suckers...it might depend on species and i can't remember which one grew along side the palm house i used to look after but the suckers came up inside everywhere. I find their foliage scent to be pretty offensive too, although some may like it.
However, wow, they're stunning !!!!

Thanks, Andy - I've seen this Clerodendron at a Nursery not far from here, so I can easily find out if it does sucker. As it's going up on a bank, I won't be able to sniff it!
