From this sunday, the weather is set to turn pretty damn nasty. Snow and daytime temps of below freezing are set to hit us for at least 5 days. So, as most weathermen say, if you've got any seedlings out there, get them protected and if you're thinking of sowing anything, might be worth putting it off for a week.

We were just talking about this yesterday - the wind is changing to North/East for us and it is going to be bitter - minus 15 and more here.. This is the stuff that finishes loads of things in the garden off but there is also talk of a lot of snow which is the warming blanket that we all need...
Thanks heavens I didn't do the seeds that I was intending to do - I shall bring some stuff inside and put the rest in thick layers of fleece... and cross everything that we don't lose too much!!

I have just heard the radio whilst washing and the weather man says that the amount of snow and wind that is expected could bring Germany to it's knees...and that in a country that is equipped for snow - poor old UK!!
Then his last words were - stay at home if at all possible!!!

EDIT: I do hope that Dutchy will be OK - she is in Austria..hope she doesn't get snowed in!!

Thanks for the warning andy I heard something similar this morning on the weather report but it did'nt give many details. I need to google. Rosefriend that sounds really bad, as you say it must be pretty bad if they think it will bring Germany to it's knees when you're used to really bad winters.

We can only prepare if it comes to fruition. I have little faith in the long-term forecast, most days they can't get it right for the next 24hrs!!! I must fix the leaking roofs on the little growhouses though

Thanks for the warning andy, I did see something on the Met Office site, but I always think that they can't mean us just oop North. The I saw a forecast for Snow in Hastings on Tuesday . Thing was it was just Hastings, everywhere else on the south coast just had rain

I do hope this is a joke...we have just heard the news and warnings are already going out for the weekend, especially Sunday. Two days ago it was up to 30 cms (12in) and minus 15 - now they say we are going to get 1metre (39in) of snow and minus 20 and not go out on Saturday/Sunday/Monday...well I bet the schools are out on Monday then but I do hope that things are not as bad as they say...

wow Rosefriend that's shocking, I do hope they're wrong, everyone will be locked in their homes and how on earth could you clear that from your pathways. Keep safe and keep in touch with us to let us know how you're doing won't you.

Well this is going to be the problem Ladygardener - by law we must clear the pavements but that is one hell of a lot of snow...not sure how if it so heavy and we have 3 houses to do as well (neighbours on both sides are away)... and as we have to do it from 8am to 8pm it is going to be a lot of work. Thankfully the phone lines are 1.50m under the ground so we shouldn't lose connections - the wind is supposed to be terrible as well and there will be a lot of drifting... Nah - I've decided that our road will be exempt - as soon as we get just enough snow to be a warming blanket for my plants I'll turn the supply off...!!!!!!!!!! RF
