I don't think so Rosefriend. I think you just pull your fingers through it to get out the dried bits. Mine are a bit greener than yours but you can see green down low on your plants. I've just taken a bread knife to mine and split them both in half.

Looks like Frosted Curls to me to, I only know because its one I've lost and I only emptied the pot the other day and looked at the label. Might have to put it on my get another one list

The name Carex comes from the Greek keiro, to cut and which alludes to the sharp edges of the leaf blades found on many of the species.

Sounds like a plan although I have to say there was no blood shed when I split my 2 carex - may have been more luck that judgement though!!
