Anyone participate ? There is a small patch of ground next to a small electricity sub station at the end of our road. I go past it every friday on the way to the pub. It's about 3m x 2m and someone's planted some spring bulbs there. It is very neglected though. Now my manager is very much into Guerrilla gardening and has just given me a tub of wildflower seeds from the mix we use in the parks (it's called sarah's bouquet). I'll get some before and after photos and i might even do my front garden with it as i have enough for about 50m2 !!!!

I do a very little bit. OH and I scattered wild flower seeds on the soil that was dumped by the playground next to our house when they were doing the drainage for the village cricket/footie pitch and I have wild honesty to sow along the hedge line today. I've put daffodils and primroses (native ones) over the in the weedy patch over the fence too.

I'm not sure the wildflowers will come to anything because of the bunnies over there but we'll see. If they like poor soil though they couldn't be in a better place!

It's a bit random really - the rabbits certainly don't read the books I have on gardening with rabbits and when they're hungry they eat stuff they really don't like! Oh well, some of the things I have put over there have survived like lavender and teasels! We planted some wild cherry whips too but had to put bunny guards on them so they look a bit obvious at the moment!

hello all. yeah, I'd have added something in here now but ruddy photobucket is on the blink again. Has everyone found that the upgrade has been more like a downgrade???
One of the women that I gave a guerrilla gardening talk to in the autumn has given me seeds. More seeds than I know what to do with!!! So, I'll be a busy boy over this bank holiday weekend, casting hither and yon.
More good news, I took part in that Million Trees in One Day scheme and got my trees this morning. I put in for as much as I thought I'd be able to cope with. But it's May 4th. I'm going to have to pot them up till next autumn.
4 Rowan 3 Alder 3 white and blackthorn 1 Scots pine and assorted others. All in buckets of water. I'm frantically looking around for large containers to put them in semi-permanently....
oh well.

Well done cygnet I'd heard about the Million Trees in One Day, I think Hannah's school applied as well but I'm not sure. You'll be kept busy that's for sure. I agree with you about Photobucket it does take a while to get used to, I find that if you hold down the shift key and click on each picture it's easier to bulk upload. Hope to see pics soon.

I read your post cygnet and then went to have a shower and the same question kept coming back to me..."how do you surreptitiously plant a tree" ?? OK - a few seeds or a seed bomb, no problem, but you can't walk down a road nonchalantly whistling with a tree stuck under your arm...even a blind man would notice something!! Pleased that the trees can be planted in the open without worrying that the cops could be around the next corner!! RF

I throw my unwanted seeds onto local waste ground and put extra or dodgy bulbs into the fields next door. OH plants all the montbretia that we dig up in the waste ground which borders the stream and the lane. Unsurprisingly, they're flourishing

This should have been included in the above post. Heya RF, well the first few I did were planted out , late on a thursday evening, after training and a few refreshments! You know the type of refreshment where you lose your inhibitions? Then, other than that, you plant them up during moments of televised national importance. During the game for your country's first rugby Grand Slam for 59 years. Or during a World Cup qualifying game. Or on Christmas Day evening. That took most organising. I was to spend Christmas at my sister's about 8km away, as OH was going to be away. My sis collected the trees in October or so, I sent up a shovel and fork in the week before and also got her to drop me and the trees in their pots (10L paint tubs) at or near the location. Then about 9pm I cycled up and dug around for an hour or so, planting them all. It was a bitter ly cold night and I was all wrrapped up. You should have seen the sweat marks on my shirt when I gto back!!! You'd swear I was in America's Deep South during August or something. So, I have six hawthorn cut back hard and planted in a rush before I left for Lithuania. I water them in every couple of days. It's been warm and dry here for the last couple of weeks. Do you remember dry, RF? The rest, they're in pots and buckets. The Scots pine is the smallest and it doesn't look good at all. But we'll see what happens. I am now going to spend 3 months thinking on where to plant them all!!!" and V5 is kak. cygnet.

Have tweaked the post above cygnet......see V5 isn't all kak!! Just how illegal is all this - I mean, are we going to have to bake a cake and put a file in it at some point??!! I can understand you throwing seed bombs and as you saw we can buy them ready made here, but there is a big difference between some poppies and a tree...they tend to be rather noticeable....!! What happens to the trees if someone takes umbridge that a scots pine has suddenly appeared in their drive!! I am no tree expert but think of how long small trees are in pots in the GC before they are sold. I suppose if you keep watering them they should be OK....in theory!! RF

Ok, it's not ALL kak Rosefriend. I was able to log in today for the first time in ages. January???
Well, it's going to take me till September to figure out where to put them all. And of course, they won't be going in ppl's driveways!
I've already stopped growing chestnuts and changed focus to mountain ash. They are much easier to get rid of. Chestnuts are not an urban tree, to be honest/fair. I just love them. In spring they have a lovely flower, in summer they have a lovely shape, and in autumn they have a lovely colour and fruits.
I cannot use my smart phone much at the moment, unless I'm in a wifi zone. I had to take the sim out and put it in a 'dumb' phone for calls and text. How '20th century'!!! Anyone know why the PUK number doesn't work? Maybe I should enquire in another thread....
The customer service/phone shop said they'd send it back to be fixed, but would wipe everything, incl my 3800 photos on it. Eeeek!

it's kak again. Had to change my password to log in.
Ladygardener, I've had such problems with Photobucket, that I think I will never, ever, ever bulk upload, ever ever again. It's as quick to do 5 individually as try five together, wait ten minutes, then do the original five individually after all.
They've made it worse.

Outside the KGB building in Vilnius. God it was a fearsome experience to inside. Having said that, I'd recommend it to anyone. What the Russians did to the Lithuanians is nothing short of shameful and scandalous. Anyway, a seed bomb in each of the three tree pits.

Hello again. Back. Like a bad penny! ha, anyway, an exclusive for GWD. Here are some photos of gg I've done recently that I've not got round to posting on the gg website. So, here goes. Often, people dump the contents of their window boxes out on the street or in a green space. Thus... So, not caring and already having an idea for a bit of suitable guerrilla gardening land that could do with a bit of organic matter, I scooped it up. There is one photos missing from the sequence, but we'll pick it up here. The soil is heavy clay with as it turns out, hardcore gravel beneath. and a stubborn dandelion. See, I've already started with a previously dumped bit of potting compost to the left... the aforementioned hardcore gravel...I used a bit of flat timber to protect the bit I'd already dug over... I saw this abandoned plant on my travels with work, so I nabbed it too. Better than it going to waste. The organic matter around the roots can be recycled here. break it up and mix it in. (there's a banana skin in there aswell) There's another missing photo in the sequence here. The big american multinational pls coffee chain has in one of its stores, free used coffee granules to take away. So, I got a bag of that and mixed that in too... oh yeah, here's a close-up. I haven't got around to putting something in that spot, but I had relative success with a rescued sunflower seedling. Relative success, because it was stolen/broken a couple of days after this photo was taken. Bugger that, anyway. and this is what I'm like when I do guerrilla gardening at night. Sometimes...

thanks all. Auricula first. Oh god yes. It's beautiful. I'm going to go again. I have some guerrilla gardening style photos on the guerrilla gardening website. I'll upload a few touristy ones and put them on here soon. Yeah, it's very good. I did like it a lot. Easy access from the airport to town. The Lita is fixed to the euro, 3.46 or so. If you like it steaming hot, go in the summer. I don't, so I went in May and it was perfect. In the 20s. Next time I want to see the Hill of Crosses. Search for it. it's mad! I saw Trakai Castle, about 30 mins from Vilnius and a 2km walk from the station. It's at the end of an isthmus sticking out into a lake. btw, Lithuania is FULL of lakes and forests. Mostly silver birch and pines. Rolling countryside, highest point about 294m. Just had a look. I have a few to put up on here... it is an A amazing country. What we (in Ireland) had to put up with and deal with in 1916,they did all that in 1991. It's SO recent. Unreal. God yeah. The KGB museum was tough alright, but worth it. Jesus, what humans do to each other is grim....And the Russians were/are bullies. Yes, yes, it's lovely. I have over a thousand photos, I think. Too many to upload to fb, and meh, I only did the gg ones cos I have an interest in that, you know? if you've any questions PM me....

Ladygardener, yeah, those hips have all been cut back to the wire, at least a foot to a foot and a half deep. The site is quite exposed now!!! Relative to what it was before. The sunflower was kinda sheltered.... Rosefriend, yeah, I have been wondering what to put in there. I have a kind of gooseberry and also a two year old clematis that must be horribly pot bound at this stage. The site is prone to chemical attack and weedwhacking. (and theft)...
