Looks like your house has had a rather large brace fitted Shame you can't adorn it with some flowers, but I suppose you could drape some solar lights along it How long is it stopping up for?

It looks a bit like Diarmuid Gavin's Chelsea garden last year - are you sure you're not allowed to put any pots or baskets on it!

You could skip around the garden singing "Lily the Pink" I always sing it to myself whenever I see a building covered in scaffold

I think it will be with us for a while Tig, the rendering has to come off, then the brickwork inspected and replaced, then rerrendered, the front looks even worse, I keep ducking when I go under it, much to Hubbys amusement.

Because the pop group Scaffold made the record Lily the Pink in 1968. It went to no1 and they got a Gold record for it..........it's very catchy. I keep forgetting how YOUNG you are Jasmine

Ahhh! I just couldn't work it out! I know the song as my Dad used to sing it in the car! Never heard of the group though. Young, young, young, that's me, the bursar and I are the same age - we didn't think we'd feel quite so young next year!

No, you certainly won't One of The Scaffold is Paul McCartney's brother...........I'm full of useless information You were only about 4 when it was no1 so we won't hold it against you

Oh dear - I shall be singing 'Lily the Pink' all day now. Did you know that Roger McGough (the poet) was also in 'The Scaffold'? I met him - he came to an INSET session on poetry. <shows off>. He was hilarious! That scaffolding is serious stuff, Barbara. I hope it's not there for too long. Fairy lights definitely might help??

Gosh it's a big job indeed Barbara I had no idea. Sounds very expensive too, make sure you keep some money for new plants.

My poor little house, the workmen are not batting an eyelid, just changing bricks and filling stuff in, they said it's not bad, well I don't want to see bad then.

That's interesting Barbara - it looks like it was built to be rendered from day one by the look of the poor original pointing. It'll be better than new once the lintels are replaced and it has a new 'coat' on it. Hope they don't cause too much damage to the sills though while they are kango-ing away!!

Hubby went up today, and the sills are perfect, the rough edges are old render, so that's a plus.

At least they look like they're getting on with things at last Barbara. I'm not sure if I could resist the temptation of all those poles sticking out if I had spare hanging baskets
