Hi all knowledgeable people out here. I am going to the lake district this August and wonder where I can go when I want to see gardens. Any tip is welcome, a good pub after all is also something one needs after a day of wandering around nature. And anything I can learn from or about the area is welcome. Eagerly awaiting all your information...

Hutton -in- the -forest is lovely too Dutchy, the house and gardens are both worth a look around.

Dutchy Ruth's husband grew up there so I'll ask her if she can recommend anywhere for you. I've been several times to different places but can never remember the names of anywhere.

Both Whinlatter and Grizedale forests are nice too.

Make sure you take wellies and a brolly wherever you go. And...try Kendall Mint Cake ( I love it)

Wellies come waterproof hiking shoes on the "to take list", brolly as well and new list filled up with all the good tips. Thanks all.
Does any one know if I can get joint membership National trust at the places themselves or should I get it in advance?

You can usually get it at the places themselves Dutchy and they refund your fee for that particular place, or, obviously, you can get it in advance

Thanks Auricula, In advance from abroad is as expensive as at the places I discovered so I'll probably go and get it in the UK.

Dutchy I don't know if you would have access but BBC Countryfile which went out on Sunday was all about the Lake District. I've forgotten to ask Ruth about where to go but I will next time I'm chatting to her.

Thanks ever so much Ladygardener. I'll see if I can find it on Youtube. And thank you for going to ask Ruth.
