I think that called covering all the bases Jasmine, hope BT is OK. Ron, those poppy plants are awful, I must say that when I used to order from T&M the plants were generally healthy if a bit smaller than most people would expect. Total different to what I ordered generally, but healthy unidentified specimens

I think they must have had a particular problem this year with a fungus that causes plants to rot. I got the replacements and though they looked a lot better, there were signs of something black on the edges of some leaves. Sure enough after a couple of days they quickly went the same way. I think they have probably tried to clean out their greenhouses but not done a good enough job. The trouble is that now I have to disinfect everything to make sure it doesn't spread among my plants. I won't go near T&M again.

Just by coincidence the T&M Autumn catalogue was on the mat when I came home tonight. The thing is I remember when we started this thread it being a bit of a laugh, mostly because T&M were very cheap. So if you risked £4.99 in their sale, sometimes you got a bargain & sometimes you just got a mystery plant that was at least healthy. Having a quick look through the catalogue, the average plant is now around £11.99, chances of me risking that amount on something that might not be the right thing plus given your experience Ron, likely to be half dead are slim to none.

Don't blame you, Jilly. That's the advantage of sharing our experiences on a forum like GWD. Most experiences are good and a pleasure to share, but when they're not we are forewarned.

I can only buy seeds at T & M which has annoyed me on and off for years - we don't get plug plants here in Germany which is another thing that annoys me...however - T & M seeds have always been fairly OK and in their half price sale I always get a few things...I am now pleased that I don't get the plants...
Plants in the UK are not cheap to start with but for 11.99Pounds I want a plant that has the right label and is damn healthy - two things that T & M certainly lack in!!

I have come down into the garden this morning to find 12 anenome plants I was growing on in pots and a couple of geraniums collapsed and turning brown. I've already had to cut my rudbeckia and lavatera down to the ground because they were affected (and the rudbeckia was just about to flower). Just hoping they survive. The rotted plants I posted were to replace original white poppy and meconopsis plants I bought which died from rot. I must have either spread it on my hands or spores have been floating around, because it has spread. T&M have a lot to answer for.

Thanks, Jasmine, Hope so too. When all this rain is over, I'll get out there and clean evrything up, sterlise pots, clear up any plant litter, etc. Then a spray with a good fungicide.

I should have known better but whilst ordering seeds with the free p & p offer last week I also ordered a pretty looking clematis, and it was cheaper to buy two so I did They arrived this morning, the plants are small but looked OK in the box until I got them out, absolutely covered in aphids! I have had to wash them under the tap and they are not happy looking plants but are at least clean and pest free, for now. Knowing how aphids spread there will no doubt be a few lurking I've missed. Hopefully the seeds grow to be what they are supposed to be.

Did you complain, Tig? T&M should be told. That is simply not acceptable.

Tig, I'd complain on their web page, you'll get a reply the same day for sure. It has always worked for me. Shocking that they sent plants with aphids on them!!!!!! I ordered seeds recently and some over wintering onions, most but not all of the seeds have arrived. Unfortunately they don't have pictures on the packets, I did kind of expect that 'tho, I'm sure it saves them money. I should get the onions by end of the month.

I should have taken a photo really but I just wanted to clean the pests off. I doubt they would do anything even if I do complain, I will learn my lesson and not order any more plants from them. Hope the rest of your seeds arrive soon LG. I always assume that the packets without pictures are down to demand being greater than they had planned, so they end up using plain packets with labels stuck on to package from their seed stocks.

T & M are a huge company, they must turn over millions in the UK. They are based in Jersey though so that they don't pay UK taxes. We make a lot of fuss about Google, Starbucks and others. Wonder why nobody's picked up on T & M.
