This week appears to be 'go wrong week' in the Spruance household and by far the most irritating failure so far has been my trusty old Atco Admiral lawnmower which has suffered what the local repair shop describes as a 'major structural failure' and would cost something in the region of £225 to put right! So instead of throwing good money after bad it's back to the once every 15 years job of finding a new mower. I prefer petrol to electric and rotary to cylinder and for that matter push as opposed to self-propelled as the former is easier (for me) to manoeuvre around beds and borders. I also like the snobby stripes so would need one with a rear roller. Having spent most of the afternoon trawling through websites I am seriously considering a Hayter H617 'Spirit' 41cm cut model for no better reason than it seems the closest match to my old mower but does anyone else have any recommendations, or indeed ones to avoid?

I always have Allen flymos at work. Ive tried the cylinders, the ride on's, the decent powered rotary's but every time, ive gone back to my trusted flymo.
They give a superb, even cut but don't pick up...which is fine by me. Ive got a 4 stroke one that just ploughs through long grass with ease.

Strangely enough I have a 'spare' (inherited) Flymo but it doesn't have a grassbox so is only really useful for emergencies or if the grass is very long.
