You didn't say white but A. Snowstorm is lovely andy and the real gem for me is A.Bluestorm. There is a new one called Black Pantha - it is suppose to be so wonderfully dark but I have never seen it.... Snowstorm Bluestorm Found this of Black Pantha/Panther RF

Are they all pretty hardy RF ? My garden gets very cold and stays cold for a long time as it's north east facing and doesn't get any sun for about 4 months.
They do look nice though
thanks

Are they all pretty hardy RF ? My garden gets very cold and stays cold for a long time as it's north east facing and doesn't get any sun for about 4 months. They do look nice though thanks My front garden is the same, north facing and no sun from end of September to March... I had Bluestorm which is a 70cm, so is Snowstorm as far as I know. I lost mine through a minus 22winter with little snow. I bought another one and left it in the GH where it did better, - that I ended up losing when it rotted the year before last, but I shall get another Bluestorm as they flower so much earlier and last and last.. You are going to have to give them some kind of covering for winter I think anyway andy. Any chance of keeping them in the GH?? Black Pantha is apparently a small one but not very hardy at all - perhaps a GH/Conservatory type one...?? Tig has aggy's and it is cold where she lives - perhaps she has some ideas??!! RF

I grow all my agapanthus in pots so I can overwinter them in the cold frame. It does freeze in there but they are not sitting in soggy wet soil all through the colder months. If the rockery is well drained they may be OK left outside where you are Andy with just a couple of conifer cuttings put over them to protect from the worst of the winter weather.
I love my white one, it has a hint of lilac on the tips and grows to about 2' 8" but it was just bought as a 'white agapanthus', I have got seedlings off it. I also have Blue Giant which are just over 3' tall and a good colour.

I will be mulching this year with "soil improver" and i'll make sure anything that really needs it get's at least 6"
We're in the middle of the south downs so soil is generally chalky, flinty loam and very well draining.

Its the wet on the surface and then getting frozen that will finish them off andy so the mulch will be a must for you to stand any chance. Good luck I love Agapanthus and had quite a few at one time, all mine were in pots and I over wintered in the GH. Unfortunately the winter of 2010 or was it 2011 when we had that really really cold one and we were frozen up for ages finished mine off Crocus have a few on offer at the moment for anyone thats interested www.crocus.co.uk/search/_/search.agapanthus/sort.0/
