When i sit down and order my plants last year, all the plants arrived in 9cm pots and by the time i'd planted them, they didn't stand a chance with the winter and spring we had. So had a chat with the boss this week and we've agreed to get the plants a lot earlier so they're all in before the end of september and get them all in 2 litre pots or bigger. Many of the plants ive ordered are for just gapping up where we've lost a few but i've added a few new ones too. Going to be looking at getting around 400 plants. We're going to be mulching too....certainly had no mulch in the 23 years ive been there and the soil is looking a bit lifeless. So here's the present list. Might pop up to Wisley tomorrow to have a look so things might change. 12 Eryngium alpinum blue star 12 Pleioblastus auricomis 34 Helenium double trouble 16 Helenium sahin's early flowerer 12 Phlox blue paradise 12 Phlox starfire 12 Phlox norah leigh 20 Coreopsis grandiflora sunrise 15 Coreopsis zagreb 10 Ligularia britt marie crawford 15 Geranium rosemoor 12 Veronica blue charm 12 Veronica cupid 12 Pennisetum hamein 12 Pennisetum redhead 24 Perovskia atriplicifolia blue spire 12 Agapanthus blue storm 12 Agapanthus blue heaven 15 Agastache black adder 6 Solidago goldkind 12 Kniphofia red rocket 15 gaillardia tizzy 12 Geranium brich double 6 Rudbeckia goldsturm 12 papaver picotee 20 geranium salome 20 Geranium summerskies

Cooo blimey - do any ever fall off the back of the lorry - in which case I'll book a flight....!! Wonderful list and I saw the Geranium summerskies at one of the open gardens that we went to - they really had got it well situated with grasses and silver leaved plants. By the way one plant that I have never seen in the UK, and is marvellous, is Zenobia pulverulenta "Blue Skies"...have you ever seen it andy.? I have had mine years - possibly a good plant for the gardens.. RF

Im not feeling the love with the Zenobia to be honest RF....it's not jumping out and grabbing me by the throat and saying "buy me". Each to their own though....it may also get a bit tall for what im after.

Well i've done it....ive just sent the list off to the boss by email. My estimation was there's just over 700 plants at an average cost of £5 (trade). That'll be about £3.5k But if we can get these in all before the end of september and keep them watered, followed by a big mulch, we'll have a garden that will rival any in the country for summer colour. If i never come back on this forum, you'll know the boss wasn't very happy

It's not as easy as you think RF....you have to select plants which are hardy, readily available with the companies you deal with, colourful and have a long flowering period, They can't be thugs or seed everywhere and can't flop over as any supports we use would be in the pond.

Well, just had confirmation that everything on the list is available with the exception of...
Geranium midnight reiter....subbed for G. black beauty Alstroemeria indian summer subbed for A. inca lake Veronica cupid for V. apollo
Not sure on the geranium swap....think black beauty might be a bit small and i really needed a bit of a thug as it's on a walk through area and i want to stop people walking through.
Other than that, thrilled to bits....just got to get them planted now !!!!!
