I certainly do - I can't wait for Mark to build our flood defence wall. So sorry to hear about your parents, prodigal gardener. Is it bad? Will they have to move out?

We certainly had a lot of rain here in Essex,we are lucky, being a bit higher than other places we dont have flooding problems, but i went to ASDA in Shoeburyness, about 2 mls away and the entrance was blocked off, since found out that it was flooded, then i went about another mile to get some fish n chips for tea and it wasnt cooking cos the place was flooded.

I know, I was a small child, but I remember it clearly. Fortunately all that could come amiss in Asda and Waitrose is a bit of food. I hope everyone's houses were not badly damaged, I know what that is like even though we weren't living here, our tenants lost everything on the ground floor

Mum and dad seem to have got off fairly lightly. Carpets knackered and they've had to turn the electric off so mother has no kettle. That'll be causing her grief !! Thankfully they are insured and the damage isn't so bad. Accirding to the echo website the area in general has been quite badly hit with Southend not fairing to well. Glad to hear you are ok fb. Not bad where you are is it? My bestest friend lives half a mile from mum and dads (if that ) and she is fine. Mum has been cleaning today and she is a bit miffed that they have lost a few fish out of the pond :-( still they are ok and dad has calmed down now he has found the insurance so thank god for that !! We have had a lovely day here sunny and warm !!! Didn't mention that tho :-) x

Mum is fed up now. The carpet stinks and the water has damaged their furniture. They are waiting for the insurance man to come and have a look. Been a lovely day down there today so she has got all the stuff out of the summerhouse to dry out. All the doors are open but she said it still smells horrible. I feel pretty useless up here but they don't want me to go down. I'd only get in the way ! It's rubbish for then but at least they are safe, insured and can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Mum will soon be picking out new carpet. That should cheer her up :-) x

They must spray around with anti-bateriological spray, or use something like Dettol - that's the first thing our 'disaster' man did when he arrived after our floods - how do you know what was in the water? Have they taken the carpets up? Tell them to keep them somewhere, as the Insurance assessor will want to see them. And make a list of anything that was damaged, too.
