I saw this on Tig 's Open Gardens Staffordshire thread and it was one she didn't recognise, I love it and hope you don't mind me using the photo Tig but I wondered if anyone had any idea on what it is. I was thinking maybe anemone but wasn't sure and what variety.

Has it got blue reverses on the petals, Chuckles? If so, it looks very like Anemone 'Wild Swan'.

Not a clue Geranium as it is a pic I copied off of Tig s Open Gardens Staffordshire thread, it was a garden she visited last year. I'd found Anemone 'Wild Swan' but its the blue stamens that have foxed me. Its the white petals with the blue stamens that makes me love it and I'd got this vision of them growing with a blue flower, maybe delps or veronicas or similar. You know what its like when you have a vision

Looks very much like Anemone rivularis, which does have a blue reverse to the petals. It is a far better plant than any of the A japonica as it does not thug. Seeds need to be sown fresh for them to germinate.

I know exactly what you mean about 'visions', Chuckles. It's such a good feeling when you create the picture you had in your head, isn't it. I hope you find the right Anemone - I expect owdboggy's right.

I went and looked and sadly I forgot to collect the seeds when they were green (the only way to get them to germinate) and they have gone over. Pity there is no way of getting plants to you as I have a few from last years seed.

If the weather stays fine and I put some petrol in the car I could try and find you OB - it is such a pretty flower with the blue stamens. I've found some seeds online, will they grow from older seed owdboggy, or are they best grown from fresh?

The seeds are effectively dead once they go from green to brown, so any saved would just not grow. It is a major problem with many members of the genus, that the seeds have a very limited life span.

That was very kind of you to check for seeds owdboggy , thankyou. Maybe next year if I haven't found plants I'll give you a nudge about fresh seeds I've found the plants on Avon Bulbs web site for £4.50 postage is £6.75 but I'd much rather see the plants in the flesh though. Its lovely isn;t it Tig and is on my wish list for next year now Thanks for your help OB
