I have a 10 x 8 greenhouse at home which i grow my bedding in as well as toms, cues, chillis etc.
Ive now been given a 12 x 8 glasshouse for my allotment !!!! trouble is, i haven't got a clue what to grow in it. Ive thought about having a white grape one end and a red grape the other and grow them permenantly in the ground. I'd also like to try some melons.
Now the greenhouse will have borders so anything else i grow really needs to be planted rather than in pots.
I always like growing something a bit different....ive thought about sweet potatoes but not sure if they'd stand the heat.
So any suggestions. Ive got to like eating it....and there's not much i don't like, it can be annual or perennial but, there will be no heating at all, i could stretch to bubble wrap but no other heat.
So give it your best
Andy

Beef toms - I have seen you tend to do cherries etc but you love cooking so how's about some beef toms for sauces, good ones though?? Melons - oh yes - I have done them here - got a couple of tennis balls but they were delicious!! Pepinos...tastes like a mix of pears and melons. I grew these even 20 years ago on the terrace. Now then need warmth but once they are growing they are pretty good and can stand a lot - they can grow about a meter or even as a hanging plant...taste really good. I have grown them off and on most years. Chuckles has also grown them. You can overwinter them or take cuttings - easy to germinate as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanum_muricatumThe new rage "Cucamelons" I would personally leave well alone - they are 'orrible but at the same time others seem to like them - they take over though, rampant!! Daft as it sounds, what about figs?? Must be loads of other things as well. RF

How about Okra??
Never grown it, only eaten it once but for stews and soups it would possibly be good...would thicken something anyway..

Oh yes Pepinos def worth a try andy. This year would of been ideal for them with the summer we've had. I grew them for a couple of years and 2009 was my most successful when I had a couple of ripened fruit, delish. This pics shows my 2009 crop They can be over wintered in the right conditions and you can get cuttings going in water, there are several Pepino threads in the Grow threads in The Gallery
