I grew mine in a big tub this year. I've never grown them before, they are huge, will they taste OK do you think or have I left them in too long. and the compost in the tub, can I use that again or ................

Wow !!!! they look delish, parsnips are my faves. I bet they taste lovely although it's recommended to leave them in the ground until they get a heavy frost on them as it enhances the flavour.
Personally, i'd keep the compost but mix it 50/50 next year with new compost. Parsnips are like carrots, they don't like freshly manured ground.

Well done Barbara, I'm sure they'll taste delicious. I've pulled just a couple of mine and they have the real parsnip taste. I'll leave the most of mine for another month or so.

Thought I had posted this yesterday. You can par boil the parsnips and then freeze them. This has the same effect as frost. It changes some of the starch to sugar.

I pulled a few more of my Parsnip last time I was at the allotment. They were delicious although I think next year I'll try to find somewhere in the ground for them to grow and use the container for something else. They did'nt grow very big. I know you're not ment to add manure to Parsnip beds but does anyone add any kind of fertiliser? I think my lot needed something added to their growing medium. Maybe BFB next year.

Two more to go and then the root bed is empty. I made a lovely thick soup with jerusalem artichokes and parsnips. Lovely with a dollop of cream.
I will grow them again as they seem so easy to do. No muck added as the roots bed is the last one in the crop rotation and they seem to find enough in what all other veg left in. But then I have clay soil which is vertile anyhow.
