The opening ceremony starts on Friday. I'm especially looking forward to the figure skating. What's everyone else looking forward to?

yes, me too, ice skating and ski jumping. The rest, meh! Ok, maybe the speed skating which can be fast and furious. I think it's a bit like F1, tune in for a possible crash!

Lovely, I like the downhill skiing, and the bobsleigh and luge, and ice skating and the curling. I'll watch most sports.

Sorry if I tread on any toes but I felt that the opening ceremony was too long and drawn out, even the fireworks at the end went on for too long and if it hadn't been for the people describing what was going on I wouldn't have understood much of it... I can see the incredible work that has gone into everything but it didn't have the "Wow" effect that London had for me - again I am biased regarding London.
I was highly amused to hear that Russia is annoyed about Germany's "rainbow" olympic clothes - rather appropriate I thought under the circumstances...as they say in Yorkshire - more than one way to skin a cat!!!
Looking forward to the games - just hope they are fair.

They did go on a bit, but that's because people like the sound of their own voices. overall I thought it was nice, I hope as you say the games are fair.

I only caught a bit of the opening ceremony because I had a friend round but I always think they go on for too long anyhow. It's a good job we had someone to explain what was happening. I'm hoping they'll be fun to watch.

Should we start a bob sleigh team ourselves, only not go as fast as those lunatics do.

We watched Jenny Jones on her snowboard yesterday, it was smashing. Well done to her getting our 1st Olympic medal on snow.

Lizzy Yarnold Britain claimed the skeleton title for the second successive Winter Olympics after Amy Williams won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games. It is Britain's second medal in Sochi and 10th gold in Winter Games history. She led after every round of the competition and held a 0.44 second advantage after the first two runs on Thursday. Todays win was .97 seconds ahead of the Silver. The BBC was showing it and I was rivited, they go at some rate, it's a wonder there are'nt more accidents. They're so strong. Well done.

It was so lovely to see that her Mum and Dad and 2 Sisters were there to see it. She seems like a lovely girl, so much work goes into their training.

There's a big campaign locally at the moment to get a post box painted gold in Lizzy Yarnold's village of West Kingsdown near Sevenoaks. I wonder why the PO have decided not to follow through with the idea they implemented in the Olympics? Lizzy's Mum and Dad were on the local news - they were so proud of her - her Dad didn't want to stop talking about her!

That's the thing, it's not just the Olympian who has made sacrifices and an effort to get to the Olympics, sometimes it's the whole family as well.

Surely the whole idea of the gold postboxes was in honour of winning a Gold at the London Olympics - home turf, so as to speak. It would lessen the impact if every gold medal were honoured in this way.

The first doping, if the B test comes back positive, and it has to be a German - silly fool - don't they ever learn. People are really really angry - they feel that they have been let down!!

That's a real shame Rosefriend, I'd not heard that. Perhaps it won't come back positive. The closing ceremony is on Sunday, Aoife was wondering if it would be as full of effects as the opening was lol.

I honestly don't know whether we will watch the closing ceremony as we both found the opening ceremony boring and totally drawn out...there again it could be good....wonder if it will be shown as a repeat the next day at some point.. So, - what did everyone think of the closing ceremony then?? I felt it was better than the opening - at least not as long.
I was reading in the paper this morning that before the athletes arrive for the Paralympics loads of areas have to be made "barrier free" - lifts don't work, loads of areas can't be used with a wheelchair etc etc...poor show if it isn't sorted in time!!
