New box for my balcony, I really haven't much space left these days. Its roughly 6 " deep x 4 1/2" wide im sure width is ok, just for maybe 5 plants?

Well, I certainly think so and for more than 5 plants as well wendya - the more plants then the more water and fertilizer, of course, but I am sure you could add one or two more... Good bit of DIY !! RF

Brilliant thanks Rosefriend, the small wooden one on the left has sweet peas in it, but never thought it may not be deep enough at the time, so got him to make another one, my hubby is pretty handy with things like this. I am hoping to run some kind of cane up the sides. But have really no idea what i am doing My balcony seems to be turning into a jungle!

Well sweetpeas need something to hold onto of course but every year when I pick the first ones for the house I am thrown back to my life in the UK and holidays as a kid...wonderful memories... I am pleased that you are finding it all good fun - don't lose heart when things go wrong and they will do - however I am still chuckling at your "oil" idea ... Great that your hubby is good at DIY - how's about thoughts towards vertical gardening as well...grab very bit of space you can!! Just try and squeeze a couple of chairs on the balcony and chill some wine and you can imagine you are on your own island!! RF

I've just seen your post wendya and I agree with Rosefriend. You'll be able to grow sp in there for sure. It's smashing that you've taken up gardening, it gives such peace to the mind and being surrounded by growing plants and herbs, maybe some veg next year, is a real tonic.

I've grown sweet peas in that size trough before wendya, they'll be fine, especially if you keep on top of the watering & feeding. If you can get hold of some plastic netting (can usually get it in a pound shop) they love to climb up that, just put a cane at either end of the trough (at the back) & stretch the netting between the 2, the sweet peas will soon find their own way. It also saves having to have a forest of canes for each plant

Thanks for that tip, sounds a great idea. Gardening relaxes me from a stressful job I find. Hey, I would love to grow veg but no room now, as hubby seems to have got the bug growing tomatoes, I'm not very happy to think, I have to give him a bit of the balcony, if only we had a garden

I think you're doing great wendya, I'm very impressed with your OH's handiwork too. Mine is very handy, but lazy lol. I like your little frog too.
