Anyone going this year...I wish I was now! It is the only time I think being the Queen would be a bonus! Just watched Joe Swift looking very pained for everyone who hasn't finished building their garden, Monty Don who said he'd never do anything as commercial as presenting Chelsea and Sophie Raworth who reads the news...and possibly gardens but maybe not Lots of new designers this year - it should be interesting!

Just watched Chelsea as well - why did Monty Don annoy me....
I am looking forward to seeing the Alan Titchmarsh garden - does anyone know anything about it??
Am I right in saying that there is TV coverage every afternoon at 3pm UK?? Anything else??

Strange one with Chelsea (and to a lesser degree, Hampton court) but the designed gardens just don't interest me at all. I much prefer the marques with all the colours, scents and displays going on. Quite enjoy walking round the vendors too to see if there's any gems worth buying.

It's to celebrate his working in gardening for 50yrs. They seem to have a load of presenters this year.... at least it'll water down Moga Don The Chelsea Flower Show comes under the BBCs remit for "entertainment" not "gardening" according to a spokesperson, so that justifies Sophie Raworth and Nikki Chapman apparently. I'm looking forward to all 12 hours of coverage especially the bits in the pavilion and with Chris Beardshaw I am already in love with Luciano Giubbilei's garden for the Telegraph.... it's gorgeous

I am looking forward to seeing AT's garden though.... Monty Don has never annoyed me ...well, up to now - it was something he said that came across as so arrogant that my hackles rose - can't remember exactly what it was now - possibly more the condescending tone... Monty Donn is a funny one Rosefriend, when he first did a stint on GW quite a few years ago, he could have won awards for being condescending, but he seemed to have improved since he's been doing GW from his own garden in the past couple of years. I must admit that I've only watched the last 15 mins or so of last nights coverage & I was a bit about Sophie Raworth let alone Monty, the only bit I saw him on was right at the end & he didn't seem very enthusiastic about being there to me, which is a bit of a worry as the show isn't even open yet . I'll watch this afternoons coverage whilst I'm at work, but tbh if the weather is still good this evening, I'd rather be out working in my own garden & check Chelsea on the i-player if I get the chance.

I've not taken to Sophie Raworth I'm afraid. I saw her in one of the programmes about the run up to Chelsea and of course yesterdays coverage. It seemed to me she was trying too hard to show she had some gardening background but it came across as if it was forced and really more about her Mother (who was also on last night with her). I find MD quite condesending most of the time, I can watch him but I'm not a fan. I agree with Jilly, he did'nt seem like he wanted to be there last night and said a couple of times that he'd not long arrived and had'nt seen many of the gardens. I can watch Nikki Chapman ok as she does'nt pretend to know a lot about gardening or be something she's not, but presents quite well.

Whoops - LG's garden is not the Telegraph's ( I'm not keen on that one, too much hard landscaping) I think it's Laurent - Perrier Just seen the red button coverage and wasn't bowled over by any of todays gardens.... the delectable CB is always well worth a butchers....although he shouldn't stand next to Anne-Marie Powell

The only thing that kept me under control last year at Hampton Court was the shopping Angel of Death (aka my OH) and the fact that you can only carry so much on public transport!

What is Carol Klein wearing get your jeans and T-shirt back on girl Had to laugh at that - the dress left a lot to be desired anyway but she does look better in jeans and a T-shirt.. RF

I briefly spotted a divine white garden - whose was that? I got irritated by going away from Chelsea and looking at a giant tortoise somewhere or other. I wanted to see CHELSEA!!!! I'm not into all that concrete angular stuff - but the planting was lovely on the whole. Maybe Carol dressed up to impress her Maj?

I think the white garden was half of the Hilliers stand in the pavilion Geranium Laurent Perrrier have got best in show Auricula, I agree about the gorgeous planting, for me personally I thought that Cleeve West & M&G just edged it, when ever I see one of his gardens I always want to go & find out what plants he's used & I loved his big pink poppies in amongst all the tasteful planting this year. I thought the coverage was quite good last night, I kept getting distracted though as I think the best planting combination I saw was the boxes around the BBC balcony, I really want to know what they've used so I can do a pot like that.

I have watched a bit of the coverage and I can see what you mean about the presenters but surely the elephant in the room (!) is Christine Walkden. How did she manage to get that gig? She may be knowledgeable but she is so in-eloquent and completely fails to pass on any enthusiasm. I also can't understand why Chris Beardshaw is given less time than Andy Sturgeon - I can only think it is his decision cos he has far greater recognition and speaks well about the subject.

They did it again last night - why did we need to see 10 minutes of The Somme? I do wish they'd stick to showing us the actual gardens and pavilion. If we can't be there, that's what I, personally, want to see. Carol had quite a pretty dress on! Why is Monty using a stick? Jilly - the planters behind the presenters seem to have orange Geums in them - can't see what else.

Thanks Geranium, I thought they were, but I couldn't quite get a good look at the foliage to be sure, now to find what the wafty bits are The only useful bit about them going off for 10 minutes last night was it gave me an opportunity to quickly finish the washing up. I think Monty said he'd hurt his knee, they mentioned it briefly on the Sunday program, perhaps that's why he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself yet

My 2 bugbears are.... the constant going off to outside broadcasts like the Somme.. and.... celebs ( +Mum) who are obviously not in the least bit interested in hands on gardening ( Ben Cumberbatch and Jules Clary) I want to see more plants in the pavilion!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was interesting to read the shortlist for plant of the year. Our little Indigo Rose Tomato was there although it did'nt win. The winner was Hydrangea macrophylla Miss Saori (‘H20-2’) has been bred in Kyoto by young plantsman Ryoji Irie and named for his fiancé who has since become his wife.
Tomato 'Indigo Rose' entered by South West in Bloom Bred using genetic material from wild tomatoes, the antioxidant anthocyanin, believed to be beneficial to health, was found to be naturally present. Stunning black fruits ripen to purple. (Bred by Jim Myers – Oregon State Uiversity).
