Hi all I've a large area at the bottom of the garden that I want to tame next year. Last year it was a mass of weeds inc Bindweed that got the better of me. I'm thinking of turning it in to a wildflower area to smother out the weeds but I'm not sure if it will be enough. Any ideas?

Welcome to garden world, Steve.
To be honest, if you've got a problem with bindweed, unless you're prepared to spend several years digging every last bit or root out, you're only real hope is to spray the BW with a Glyphosate based herbicide.
If you planted wildflowers there, you'd probably get the opposite effect and the BW will choke the flowers out.
Even if you do spray, it may take several goes before you kill it all.
Good luck

H stevemc, - I really don't envy you - that's a job and a half and the only real way as Andy has said is to spray the Bindweed - the roots go down to China!! Loads of people are starting with Wildflower areas and there are some lovely mixes to choose from...however if stuff like Bindweed isn't out then it will strangle most wild flowers I am afraid... Do keep us informed as to how you are coping with it..

As long as it has Glyphosate, you can use expensive Roundup or cheap Tesco Glyphosate weed killer.
