6 oz butter. 6oz muscavado sugar. 3 large eggs beaten. 3 tablespoons strong black coffee. 6oz self raising flour. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 4oz walnut pieces.
make the coffee and leave to cool while you sort everything else out.
Cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, add the eggs gradually beating well after each addition , beat in the coffee..
sift the flour and baking powder into the mixture, then fold in lightly, fold in the walnut pieces, divide between 2 tins and bake for 20 / 25 minutes. at gas mark 4. for the frosting
4 oz butter 7oz icing sugar tablespoon black coffee 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
beat the butter and sugar coffee and vanilla together, until smooth and creamy, use half the mixture to sandwich the cake together, then swirl the rest on top and decorate with walnut halves.

Barbara, I've a friend coming round tomorrow so I've made your yummy cake this afternoon. I've been popping in and out of the kitchen when the tennis got too tense lol. I'll be having a slice after dinner when it has cooled. Thanks again.

I do Barbara it's delicious but I won't have to eat it all on my own as I have a friend coming round later. Only thing is 'tho, it stuck to the bottom of my non stick baking tins (I did grease them as well) so I had to do a bit of a repair job. It's grand for me here 'tho, sure it all breaks before we eat it anyhow. Perhaps I should have greased a bit better..............
