Hi all, It's been a while, but I have returned to gardening. DH and I are planning a new wild flower meadow along with a pond (occasional use for our new ducks). I have been collecting seeds along the way and choosing some nice, but perhaps obvious choices. We will have roughly about 450m2 for our 'meadow', which is about ½ of the total of our new bit of garden (currently a field). A lady at school recommended that I have a look at pictorial meadows and I have seen some gorgeous images on there, however, as I am new to this. I wondered if anyone can offer advice.... 1. Would the suggestion of 2g of seed per m2 be reasonable? This is for a lovely mix of 11 species including: Linaria maroccana Eschscholzia californica Chrysanthemum segetum Matricaria inodora Centaurea cyanus 'Polkadot' Mixed 2. Is £4.50 per 6g reasonable? It sounds very expensive... 3. Any suggestions of better places to buy seeds in bulk? Thank you for any responses.

To be honest, I never get involved with our wild flower sowing. I've never done the whole "XYZ grams per M2" thing, maybe im just old school. I think the sowing rate will be dependant on individual species....for example, you'd get a lot more seeds per gram for Foxgloves then you would Teasel which have much bigger seeds. I've just looked here www.meadowmania.co.uk/wild-flower-meadow/wildflower-seeds-bulk.htm and you can pick and choose what you want. All I will say is that you need to get them in soon....we sowed ours 2 weeks ago at work. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Ron, Hi Ron, well, I have mostly been weeding the current bit of garden and trying to keep my seedlings alive, so haven't made a great deal of progress on the wildflower meadow... need to wait until payday I think! We will have some landscaping and digging to do first and then will plant the seeds out. I fear we might have to go with beginners luck and see what will flower given that they will be planted quite late. I'm hoping to pop some before and during pictures on so that you can see what I'm doing...
