As this has happened on the balcony, I think it must be pigeons though I suppose slugs can climb! What do you think? (Petunias, campanulas haven't been touched).

I suppose there may have been slugs or their eggs in the compost. It had been sitting in an opened bag for a while. Do you think the plants will recover?

Went out onto the balcony early this morning and noticed a pigeon lurking on the roof opposite. Kept my eye on it from behind the curtains at another window and sure enough it flew down to take the last remaining flower. Rabbits on the ground, pigeons in the air, at least there's no sign of Rosefriend 's moles and voles.

Slugs can certainly climb well Ron, - found one at the top of one of my tom plants yesterday...it's happiness was short lived... Looking at the plants - could it have been caterpillars?? I don't see slime but it doesn't look like pigeons to me...there looks to be some good side shoots already showing - I reckon with some TLC they will be lovely!! EDIT: - Just seen your last post - the culprit has been found...pigeons!!! As far as Voles and Moles are concerned...I wouldn't wish them on anyone!!

Have to admit that though I said 'to take the last remaining flower', I didn't actually see it do that. It landed on the railing by the plant. Think it's probably the culprit though. The stems are all neatly bitten off with little other damage.

Slugs and snails climb up to our bedroom window Ron , don't ask me why, that does look like caterpillar damage if I might butt in here, and don't forget leaf cutter bees and also vine weevils will cut leaves off too, they are all out to get us.

Oh dear, mountaineering snails, what a thought. I will keep an eye out for caterpillars then, would they be nocturnal or early morning?
