Hi all I'm looking for ideas for planting to soften the edge of the path. Something low lying, preferably evergreen, summer flowering but which won't sprawl over the path too much and catch my son out when he's home from Uni and over indulged. It's a full sun area and the soil can be whatever it needs to be And this one is pretty much something that is half shade All suggestions appreciated

What about some Saxifrage maglonian , or some Ericas, there are winter flowering ones.

Thanks Barbara ... I'll see what the local GC has got. Especially the Ericas. Food for thought

Thyme is low growing, I have lemon thyme on the front, in summer it is covered in purple flowers and it smells nice when you brush past it too.

Some of the Erodium sp are nice as are smaller herbaceous geraniums although not evergreen. What about Erigerion 'profusion' or some of the Arabis species. Thrift would be nice as well

Thanks Andy. I've got a couple of Erodium in small pots, White flowering ones and after standing them in place - that is the way I'm going to go. I'll get a few more hopefully this week if the GC still has them in stock, if not I can separate a pratia pedunculata to get maybe 4 plants out of one.
I'm duh and never thought about alpines

Heuchera could work very well in your shady border, colours are fantastic and they keep their leaves in winter too maglonian,

Heuchera is a good option on the right hand side LG. Thanks. I've got one I want to move and one to split.
