Anyone ever tried root cuttings?....no me neither so i looked it up and thought i'd have a go.
I had a couple of lovely Phlox paniculata but they were only single specimens. Dug them up and removed several decent, fleshy roots. Also divided the plant into 4.
Just laid them on top of compost, covered with vermiculite and put on the hot mat.
Will report back.

I might try some phlox at some stage too.

I tried them a couple of years back, with Japanese Anemones which according to Carol Klein are the easiest, but didn't have much success.
